I need some help in determining what is the problem causing my bad 3Dmark scores after 146Mhz on my FSB. I get around 8550 when my fsb is at 146 and processor is at 1.53Ghz. but when i go above, 148Mhz and 1.55Ghz the score drops to 8250. Then i tryed fsb 150Mhz and processor at 1.5Ghz and still my score is around 8250. I have to be doing something wrong here.. please a little help!!

system:

AthlonXP 1600+ (AGOIA) TB/a (will clock it higher later) it can go!!
Abit KR7A (non-raid - bios flashed to N6)
samsung ddr3200 256MB cas3 @ cas 2 2 5 2 t1 (mem populated in first lost)
Maxtor 60gig 7200
*gainward goldsample GF3 ti200 @ 225/535* (will clock it higher later)
SMC nic 10/100 (1244TX)
TBS Montego pci sound card
lite on 40x
LG dvd 40x
standard floppy

i got a pentium class hsf on the northbridge and the vid card and adequite cooling everywhere else.

!!will be reposted else where!!! (must have answer)

Fact:
The higher FSB does not mean you will get better performance, unless you have a good board that can do it. you have timing problem with the CPU and MEM. Try running them at the same bus clock speed.

Fact:
Memory slows down when you clock it higher than it should go before it gives out.

Fact:
3dmark2k1 is addictive and useless

Fact:
300 pts in 3dmark2k1 doesn't mean anything

Fact:
You will be wasting more time try to get 3dmark2k1 to work "right" than using your computer ^^;

3dmark2k1 sucks and that's a fact!

3Dmark is like Heroin, its addictive, it wastes ur money, you crave for more, you can't stop once it sets in... so you must stop now before you end up stealing from your relatives, selling your house and end up in jail.

Otherwise, perhaps the AGP dividers is causing your AGP card to be underclocked when u push the FSB that high?

Simple........ you went too far.

System is spending cycles correcting data errors due to excessive OC. (could be Video Card, AGP bus, FSB/memory timings, MoBo, or CPU)

I hate to spout off common sense (no wait, actually it is fun!) but when you OC, you should stop and back up a step when

you see performance begin to degrade. duh :Q

You can't just keep pushing speed up ad-infinitum!

thanks for the help guys. i benched with UT2003 and found out that there is no benefit of going over 144FSB to graphics performance, although i did notice a boost in overall system performace. i think the reason could be that my system is being limited by the graphics card. but got no real way of mesuring it yet

thanks again all

Here's a guess.. when you go over 146mhz fsb, your agp/pci divider goes from 1/4 to 1/5 so that your pci bus doesnt go too much beyond spec. So basically, at 146mhz, you were looking at 146/4 = 36.5mhz pci, 73mhz agp bus speed while at 147mhz, you have 147/5 = 29.4mhz pci, 58.8mhz agp. The clockspeed of these buses affect their bandwidth so you're looking at a significant decrease in the bandwidth of your agp bus. Its reasonable to guess that this was the main contributor in the decrease of your 3dmark score.

8550 is not a bad score at all for that system. Also who cares what your 3D mark score is as long as games run fine, and your apps do, then screw 3D mark.

That's usually my 3D mark score with the 8500 at 275/275
