Having a weird issue with my computer.

After using Acronis to clone my 250GB SSD to a 500GB, NONE of my USB (2 or 3) ports work anymore (front or rear). Well...they do work for my mouse and keyboard and they DO charge and recognize both my iPhone and my Nexus 7...but when it comes to thumb drives, they are not recognized at all (not even in Disk Management) All my other programs work just fine, and yes, I installed the USB 3 drivers. (Over and again...)

As if that isn’t weird enough, if I “slave” my old 250GB SSD to the computer (I ran power and a SATA cable out the back of the case) everything works as it should, and my thumb drives are instantly useable the instant I plug them in.

Any ideas on a fix here, or should I just keep the 250GB plugged in all the time?

Specs in my sig

So when the old 250GB drive is hooked up, are you booting from that and the usb works or
just the fact that it is installed and you are booting to the 500gb the usb works?

I would go into device manager and remove usb items. You may need an old ps/2 mouse or remote access to the machine if you are using a usb kb/mouse as those will not work.

Reboot and let it re-install the all the usb devices and see what happens

I am booting form the 500GB...I attach the 250GB as secondary drive after Windows 7 Ultimate loads to desktop.

Mentioned my issue to a co-worker, and her told me to do the exact same thing as you except to do it in Safe-Mode.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will try that, provided I can find a PS2 mouse and keyboard

Just curious - what version of TI? How did you do the cloning?

Will have to look when I get home, but I THINK it's 2012 or 13...not 100% certain.

I am not sure what you mean by how I did the cloning, but it has a copy disk function where you chose drive you want copied and then the target drive. PC reboots and it does it's thing then shuts down.

Swapped drives and turned it on, and (almost) Voila!!!

I would not use anything older than 2014. I just upgraded to TI 2016 and it is great. Here are my longtime rules for cloning with TI:
1. Create Rescue Media. I created two - a thumb drive and a CDR, both BOOTABLE.
2. Never clone from within Windows. Boot from Rescue Media.
3. Always do it MANUAL. Select source and target.
4. If drives are different size, select PROPORTIONAL.
5. Set to power down when finished.
6. remove old source drive, replace with new cloned drive.

I have never had it fail. Done it hundreds of times with 98, XP, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. When you use the bootable Rescue Media, it really doesn't matter what the OS is.

The Copy Disk function is not good cloning.

Thank you for the advise corkyg. I have always used the copy disk function, and it's never failed me...well...not until now.

At this point in time, I am going to try uninstalling the usb(s) and then rebooting. I will do this in Safe Mode, and if that fails, I will upgrade my Acronis and try from Rescue Media.

I will keep advised as I can

Did you clone from within Windows? I have heard that things like this can happen when you are in the OS. If so, my recommendation would be to make a boot CD from within Acronis, then redo the clone when booting off that disc.

One more thought. I got two new SSDs yesterday, and used TI-2016 to clone them from two other SSDs in my laptop. The newer TI version has choices under TOOLs - MBR or GPT. Also, there is a ADD DRIVE function which INITIALIZES the new drives. Sometimes without initialization they are not even seen.

Anyway, I booted the laptop with a TI-2016 thumb drive and both new SSDs were successfully cloned in about 15 minutes. (two separate operations.)

BTW, the Copy Disk function is not cloning, and does not always get alignment right for a boot drive.

Well...before I left for work this morning, I dropped $30 for TI 2016, but didn't get the chance to "play" with it, but before I left, I had a look at the interface and it looks nice.

My older version by the way was 2012

I will play this weekend with it, starting with safe mode and a PS2 KB and uninstalling ALL USBs, then reboting, and try to plug something in and let it reinstall the drivers.

If that fails, I will try TI 2016 from the 250GB SSD and the proper way rather than clone disk
