Ok, getting these errors in the event viewer in XP:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0.
When the error happens, it usually lists it as occurring 5-8 times in a row. Sometimes it causes the PC to hang for a moment, sometimes it causes a permanent hang, and I'm forced to restart.
I followed the microsoft knowledgebase first, which said it may be a bad cable, so I changed it (SATA). No change.
Next I tried moving it to a different set of SATA ports on the mobo, so that it would be on a different controller. No change.
So, I'm down to either mobo problems (SATA controller?) or dvd drive problems.
This is all on an evga 680i mobo and a Samsung DVD/CD drive.
Any thoughts? Thanks to all who reply...
