I'm trying to upgrade my parent's computer, it currently has a socket 370 400MHz Celeron, and i'm trying to put a 633 celeron on it. it works fine with the 400 but when i put in the 633 it'll boot up, but nothing wil show on the screen! Is the CPU bad? could it be that there isn't a Heatspreader on the top or that the chips on the bottom aren't covered? Please help!

make sure the motherboard suppors that speed of processor, I dont remember if the 633s required a heatsink and/or fan

You're upgrading a celeron 400 to 633... I feel like I'm in a time warp

Sorry I can't really help you though, good luck getting it to work.

when i put in the 633 it'll boot up, but nothing wil show on the screen

What does that mean? How does it "boot up"?

633 is Coppermine, and requires suitable motherboard Voltage compatability. You can google for ways to convert a motherboard to Coppermine compatability.

where did you get the 633 from. if you did purchase it lately, did the vendor do a display/boot check of the same. If your CPU was OK then, I think ur motherboard does not support the CPU. U could also visit the mobo site for CPU support details

that's the thing though. I don't exactly know who makes the motherboard, it has a SiS 620 Northbridge and a SiS 5595 Southbridge but i can't find any extra markings, so my guess is that SiS makes the motherboard, but when I tried thier product indentification thing, it said it wasn't their mobo. but other than that it has:
192 MB RAM (my gues PC 100 or 133)
Lite-On LTR-16102B
if you nee d any thing else let me know.

BTW when i say "boot up" the computer will work (LEDs, fans, HDDs and Optical Drives), it just won't show anything on the monitor.

For the SiS 620 the manual reads speed support from 300-533.
If you take a long close look at the motherboard near the center usually you will find the model of the board. You may need a flashlight and to remove it from the case. Once you determine the motherboard you will need to find the latest BIOS update and hope they added support for speeds over 533.

Firstly, as JesseKnows posted, the Celeron 633 is Coppermine128 based and thus requires support from the motherboard BIOS (I don't remember if BIOS upgrade solves the problem).
Also, 133Mhz FSB from the motherboard and PC133 memory are a must have (unless your BIOS allows you to use 133FSB with 100Mhz memory).
1-Check if there is an available bios upgrade for your mother.
2-Check your memory speed.
2b-If it is PC100 check if your BIOS allow the mentioned combination of FSB/MEM ratio.

The situation you describe is called "NO POST"....not "won't boot up".

It's not going to work unless you have:

1) PC 133 RAM (all modules). The Celeron 400 is a 66 fsb (front side bus) CPU.
2) The BIOS set to 133 fsb (BIOS "support" is not really necessary unless it makes you feel good to see cpu properly ID'd when the system posts).
3) The proper voltage support in BIOS (or via jumper)
