Bad Day For Apple Folks

So my prof did a survey and asked how many windows, apple and linux users there were today. Only one girl raised her hand for apple. The girl then asked if she can do the programming for MIPS on her apple. The professor was like, you guys need to get used to working without all the cool effects and icons to actually click on. Companies now a days want people who are more versatile and can guide themselves through an OS using ONLY the command line. She also said it would be more beneficial to know windows very well then to know an apple (engineering class). Then one of my classmates raised his hand and was like, "I used to use Apple, until it broke". Way to add to the discussion

Okay, so there was only one computer user in your class?

Is there anyone here who uses an apple at work (preferably an IT or engineering job). Just curious, I don't have much experience with them and was wondering if it was worth while to learn it.

It's not like many windows users can do much useful stuff with the command line either.

Many windows, or many Windows users? Not sure what the former means, and I'm assuming you didn't mean the latter.

FreeBSD underlies OSX, you can open up a term window in OSX and do all your CLI stuff. I think your professor is smoking crack if she thinks that Apple's are only shiny icons and animation.

For IT yes, but for general users? Hell no.

In any case, the current Apple products are some of the most versital PC's out there. Aside from OSX being a *nix implementation, they can run pretty much an OS out there. Then the hardware is good quality stuff, beating Dell and the like spec and dollar wise.

I think she was generalizing how all the students normally don't know any command line stuff. This includes window users. Apple just seems to advertise their shiny stuff a lot more i guess.

Sounds like your professor is an idiot. As if it is real tough opening a terminal window in OS X

I would bet that < 2% of mac users even know what freeBSD is.

I agree with your point. But this was an eece class so general users need not apply in this case.

You're retarded.

A girl in EECE...instead of making fun of her and promoting the awesomeness of professor, you should offer the poor girl your counsel and help with "familiarsing with the Windows interface".
Then the obligatory itb action.

honestly, why did you bother opening your mouth? what were you expecting, some kind of windows circle-jerk

'uh huh huh, today we made fun of the MAC [because for some reason windows users like to capitalize this] users in our l33t engineering class OH YEAH THAT"S HOW I LIKE IT AIIIIEEEEEEEAHHHHH!!!11one'
