Bad deals for who? Usually if one side gets a good deal, the other side gets screwed. The whole Louisiana purchase thing was good for the US, not so much for France though.

The whole Manhattan Island thing seemed like a bad deal to the origial owners in retrospect.

See also, Louisina Purchase and Seward's Folly for similar bad deals for the seller.

Allowing the Russians to "manage" western germany after WWII was a bad deal for the people who lived there.

The Treaty of Versailles is widely considered to be a REALLY BAD DEAL for Germany. It created catastrophic economic conditions that led to the rise of Hitler. This led to another legendary bad deal, the Anglo-German Declaration

'"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time."

Neville Chamberlain, 1938

How wrong he was...

We bought Alaska for about $12/acre (in 1872 dollars) from Russia, which I think $7.2m for 570k sq miles isn't a half bad deal....

Shoulda sold it back to Russia during the real estate bubble.....
