Bad Linksys flash

One of my coworkers flashed his Linksys B wired router,to the newest firmware. Now all it does is sits and all the lights blink continuously. He can't connect to the internet. His OS is xp home.
Is their any hope, and if so could someone explain the procedure? I assumed he could flash it back, to the old firmware, which he hasn't tried. I don't have much experience in this area and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

can he connect back to the router through 192.168.1.1? if not, try a hard reset, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.

Thanks for the reply, I will tell him to try the reset, as far as connecting he said he couldn't get anything through the web interface. thanks agasin

Download the TFTP uploader for his router. Immediantly when he starts the router run the TFTP utility. If you timed it properly, you should be able to reflash the router while it hasn't locked down it's files.

I think TFTP is a Linux command.

I've seen Windows clients around though.
I'm not sure if this one is any good.

The hard reset should work though.

i remember the early linksys router have a com interface. usually it is for update the E2rom of the router.
you can connect the router with a cable of com interface( usually with the router from the manufacturer), and update the E2rom.

pay attention: it is a warning action.


other, if the router have a reset button, you can reset it at a right time when the power on.

go to linksys site and download the firmware and tftp program for that model

TFTP is not a Linux program. It's the Linksys Firmware updater. I had a bad flash once due to a power failure. I kept hard resetting it and eventually TFTP was able to find and flash it. It still works 100% today.

tftp is not the Linxyx firmware updater, it is trivial file transfer protocol. You can use it for lots of netwok devices, like Cisco's routers/switches.

maybe it got interrupted while updated firmware, that can be damaging.
