tested ram, psu, and vid card in a computer that worked, all of them were fine, now testing cpu in another computer (didn't know my friend had a board that supported it!) results soon...

the board didn't actually support tbreds up to that speed, so we tested his cpu in my system, making sure that the fsb jumper was right, nothing doing...

I guess it's the mobo unless anyone else can suggest something. mech, I'm waitin' to know if it beeps or not, but that's not really a problem I guess since I can't see anything to know if it's posting

thanks alot again guys, any more input is appreciated of course

Here's an idea...install the CPU, but not the memory. Turn it on and see if it gives you anything different from the "FF" on the post display. Also, when you turn it on, watch the LED display from the very second you turn it. If it starts on FF and doesn't cycle through any other codes, it sounds like a dead BIOS..

been trying it mostly without the memory, and yes it stays at FF the entire time. I just emailed mwave.com for an rma, so we'll see I guess...thanks insane

It's not going to POST without memory!

Sounds like your monitor is toast to me ...possibly a bad connection between the monitor and video card also..

OOOPSS after reading this post looks like your mobo is DOA should definately give you a different code with no memory installed.

It will however, if it's a properly working board, give you a "C1" error. I suggested trying without memory to see if it gave him a C1 or it still stayed on FF. If it doesn;t cycle through anything, it sounds like a dead bios.

Insane3D is correct,I know somebody that actually tried his Epox board without ram while waiting for his ram to arrive, and yes it reported "C1" without any ram installed.

On a normal working Epox board it normally cycles through to the final "FF" stage,if it stays on "FF " period without cycling through then it`s a bad sign.

Would it be possible for the bios chip to be inserted wrong into the socket? Is it keyed so it'll only fit one way?

All the recent Epox boards with the newer small socketed bios chips are keyed so they only fit one way. They are a square except one corner is cut at an angle IIRC, and it will only fit one way...

Viper, I've never fooled with bios chips, so I can't answer that for sure. it looks like a rectangle, so it only goes in two ways, I'd assume it was in the correct way direct from the factory but you never know... edit: yea, from the picture, looks like one's dogtaged so it goes in one way.

here's the email I got from mwave:

Thank you for contacting MWave online support. Have you tried pulling the
motherboard outside of the case to make sure that it was not being grounded
or shorted? Have you tried pulling out the memory and CPU, and see if the
motherboard gives you a beep? The processor that you are trying to use with
this motherboard, is known working? Have you tried a different CPU on this
motherboard?

I've tried pulling the motherboard, but I am sure the contacts are fine as well. I tried it without memory, but not without cpu. I haven't been able to test the processor in another cpu, but I did test two others in my cpu, same non-response, so it's not the cpu.

asum, I tested another monitor on the system, no change. I also tested the video card in another computer, and it worked, so it's not the video or the monitor

Check the jumper pins on that board, they may have fallen off which sometimes happens and make sure the jumper pin is set to 266mz.
Remove battery and put back in and double check the jumper pins and Power connectors, I've put them on wrong before. Especially the PSwitch and Power cable connectors.
Good luck

billyjak, there's only really two jumpers that exist on the board, the cmos and the fsb, both of which are fine and set properly. I've checked as well as two other friends have checked it, none of them are bent or broken off and all set correctly.

removed the battery and put it back in, no change. power cord only goes in one way I've put it in enough times to be sure it's fine hehe.

FFh=boot attempt. I don't think it'll work but. My asus board was a P4B model. It would boot up and could get into the bios even though no cpu was inserted. Is your cpu fan in the cpu han header. Plug in one stick of memory I don't think any board will post without at least a stick.
Read a post from someone that couldn't get the board to work with a 9500. He put a geforce card in and it posted. See if one of your friends has a nvidia card you can try.

Try this
1) Power off
2) Set CMOS clear jumper to CLEAR for 10 seconds.
3) Move jumper back.
4) Press and hold the INSERT key while applying power.
5) If you can now see the BIOS screen, release the INSERT and load the defaults.
6) Test
