Just in from the DPC board and translated:

Another one from the DPC forum: !The original thread is here..

It says that Procyon has assimilated 55 Celeron500 machines.

Later on he is talking about 150 laptops. Also he is talking of a daily
average of 50k, which he will save up for a personal dump!

With the DPC running 600K to 800K on average per day more than TA (not counting the mini-flushes that the TA members have taken lately...), an assimilation like this is not healthy (for us) ....

Maybe it's time for another recruiting thread in the other forums....?!?! How we doing on some of the larger assimilations that were to occur? Train? The Good Guy? (Just asking how things are going, not meant to be a jab)...

The DPC are growing....actually faster than us at this point and with the huge base of PC power that the people who visit these forums have, it really saddens me with the end result....

Let's go guys and gals......You guys are doing a fantastic job, but we need just a little more...!!! One extra friend donating blocks...better yet, one extra friend addicted and donating not only blocks but a little time recruiting/assimilating as well ....

I'll turn it over to you guys for now...I'm tired (worked hard this week) and need rest...

Take care all...

P.S. WE CAN DO IT.....IT MAY BE HARD, BUT WE CAN DEFINITELY DO IT!

Thanks for reading

We have such a huge computing power on these forums, but its not helping at all.

~30,000 members - ~650 actual cracking.

Personally, The only way I see use that happening is if we were to concentrate on one project only....DPC is putting all their muscle behind one project RC5... while we are are devided between doing OGR, GamaFlux and SETI.....and I'm not saying that anyone from the other projects should stop doing what they are doing...but if they did we would not have anything to worry about DPC......

SpaceWalker,

You bring up a very valid point......I too sometimes think that we should concentrate on one project and quickly finish (well, quicker anyway) it up, then play catch up on another until we do the same thing....Then I sit back and say "Which project(s) to drop..?" A very hard question....The only answer that I have is to leave everything Status Quo and hope for more members and more assimilations....

I dunno.....? and

Well you got three from me today, not much. But a P3 750@898 (Temp only) a P200 and a 486@100.
Maybe next week I'll load the client up on our shelf of IBM ps2's. (6-7 of them)

Getting the active member number up is to key to winning, no doubt about it. But, that IS coming along. We ARE growing. Yesterday, we were up to 659. This is 84 more than our bottom right after OGR started.

We have a lot of enthusiasm going right now, and new members coming on board each day. Let's keep that momentum going, and we'll get back to where we need to be.

i think it is good for that we do spread our membership out amongst all the projects. i wish we could all do rc5, but with the varied interests of the people on this board, it would be impoosible to say, lets just do rc5. For some people, it would take the fun out of DC. I say, lets just ry to get new members rather than try to get others to switch.

I still think when Anand mentions it in the main page that it can help us out more than many of us know. Most of my friends don't come to the forums, and just read the news on the main site. Imagine if Anand actually devoted a review to Distributed Computing? Our active members would grow .. a lot

Well I "assimilated" a Dual P3-667 server at work for our SETI effort...unfortunately, I can only keep the client(s) on it for about a week.. then the Boss gets back!

I'm going to try to assimilate my friend who has an HP Pavilion with a K6-2 500. This guy has broadband but spends only about 10 hours a week on his computer and plays no games, so his PC would basically crack full time. He is basically computer illiterate but as long as cracking does not interfere with his getting naughty pictures and mp3s, I think he'll accept to join TA Cube. If he doesn't want now, I'll try again at the end of October when I move in the appartment right next to him and he sees it working on mine.

G|T,

You've got a valid point there.
As Russ says, getting more new members is the key to winning.
Maybe someone can make a draft review on Distributed Computing. This way Anand doesn't have to do all the work and TA will have contributed something interesting topic to Anand's website.
In the process, new members might sign up with TA.

Unluckily, I can't start on the review, since I'm leaving for a (three week) vacation tomorrow. Otherwise I would give it a try.

For a good review (in Anand's style) we need from different CPU's & OS's the RC5 keyrates, Seti keyrates, OGR keyrates and Gammaflux keyrates (in case someone forgot: we're also competing in that project ;-} ). Maybe data about motherboards and memory can be dugg up somewhere.
Remarks like RC5 is mostly cpu-dependend and Seti is heavily depending on memory can also be added.

A brief explanation of either project should also be included.

Maybe someone feels up to do this important piece of work?

Let him explain how he got them *only* after they are online. We don't want him wasting time typing here in the forum. =)

I used to have a small herd til the security guys where I work got all upset about the machines talking to D.net automatically. I still try to sneakernet a few so they dont see any network traffic. I am going to try to get a bunch running only on the weekends and dump the buffer files during the week. Once again, something is better than nothing.

BTW - Good luck in your assimulations Narzy!

Keep on Crackin'

Not "An" trout - 14 of them....
They live in my pond, and grow larger by the day.
Now then, isn't that a more pleasant topic than those other people?

Ah, I feel the calmness fall over me. Actually a few weeks ago I was at a house where they had Koi <sp?>. These things were big enough to eat! Now I have the urge to build a pond...

<boggle>

No! Must put all effort and spare cash to more CPUs!
