recently i orderd 2 amd athlon xp 2400+ from newegg.com
they were retail box and were labled 2400+
when i put it in my system it says that the cpu is an amd athlon xp 1800+

should i call newegg and ask them if they will ship me the product? OR
should i call amd and ask them to send me a new product?

Work via NewEgg faster, quicker and within the Orders timeframe

Edit>Make sure you have your FSB set to 133 and/or look on the CPU to make sure it's an 1800 to save embarrasment

Yeah, most likely your FSB is set to 100MHz instead of 133MHz. If you look at the second line on the processor's die you should see a series of four letters (most likely beginning with an A) and then the number 2400.

even if my cpu was runnin on the wrong fsb why would the bios say that a 1800+ is my cpu???

Because the FSB is one of the things that determines your overall processor speed (the other being the multiplier). If your FSB is set too low, then your chip is no longer running at 2400+ speed; it will be running at something lower, so that's why your BIOS would report something lower.

yea but why would the bios say a 1800+ was installed and that it is running at 1533mhz???

Your FSB is definitely set to 100MHz and not 133MHz. The 2400+ has a multiplier of 15x for a true speed of 2000MHz at 133MHz FSB. If the FSB is set to 100MHz, the core will be running at 15x100 (or 1500MHz). The true speed of an 1800+ is 1533MHz, so when the CPU is being detected at 15x100, the motherboard thinks its an 1800+. Should be a jumper on the board or a BIOS setting to easily fix your problem, check your motherboard manual.

Kramer

You are most likely running @ 100FSB so sheck your jumpers on the MOBO and you have a T-Bred B so the markings are not on the core rather on a black lbel below it with the markings as Shooters described...Your X's are locked so you are going @ 100x15 instead of 133X15 hence the read difference

DO WE HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU????

YOUR FSB IS AT 100, WHICH IS MAKING IT APPEAR SLOWER!!!!!!

CHANGE IT TO 133!!!!!

Ok.

There are two possibilities here.

#1- You have a jumper on your motherboard that allows you to select either a 100MHz or 133MHz bus. Yours is set to 100MHz. Your 2400+ processor uses the 133MHz bus. While using the 100MHz bus, you are underclocking it. It is running more slowly than it is supposed to. You need to set the jumper to 133MHz, so that it runs at 2400+ instead of 1800+.

#2- You have an option in your BIOS that allows you to select either a 100MHz or 133MHz bus. Yours is set to 100MHz. Your 2400+ processor uses the 133MHz bus. While using the 100MHz bus, you are underclocking it. It is running more slowly than it is supposed to. You need to set the option to 133MHz, so that it runs at 2400+ instead of 1800+.
