Bad power supply???

I have computer that when you plug it in and push the pwoer button - nothing. I can see there is a green light lit on the corner of the motherboard. The power supply fan is not running but it appears to be supplying enough power to light the MB??? Is the PS trashed???

Did you flip the switch in the back ? Haha, if the motherboard light is on, it means there is power going to your motherboard, and it should be enough to at least show any indication of start up. Make sure your headers are connected and any/all other connections are secure.

Yep...The switch on the back has been flipped. I'll doublecheck the headers but the PS fan isn't even turning....

Only thing I can think of is a bad PSU or the headers aren't connected =/. sorry

Just because the PS has juice to light the MBs LEDs doesn't make it good.

Your symptoms are classic indicators of a failing PS.

Anyone suggest a replacement PSU??? The case I have is the Antec Sonata II it says on the PS it is a 380...

It could be the motherboard, too. I've seen a couple of Dells with green lights on the motherboard, but the motherboard was dead nontheless. Given the symptoms, though, you need to start with the power supply first. You don't want to hook a "suspicious" power supply up to a new motherboard.

Depends how much you looking to spend. I like Corsair myself. If the one in my sig is too expensive for you, you can also try either the VX450 or the 400watt one they have (forgot the name.)

I had this issue a little while ago and it was due to a surge going through the surge protector and blowing out a 12v rail on my PSU and messing up my power switch on the case. If you swap out the PSU and it doesn't fix it, check the power switch as well.

I just had a similar experience on my Dell. I would push the power button and nothing happened. The green light on the motherboard was also lit, but nothing else would work, no fan no power, etc.
I tried two other good power supplies and the same thing, green light on the m.b. but nothing else. I even tried to jump the two pins on the motherboard that power on the computer figuring maybe the switch was bad, but n.g.

I just ordered a reconditioned m.b. from a Dell supplier and hope to see if that is the problem.

I will keep you informed.
