I recently had to change out a mobo and replaced it with an old Soyo K7V Dragon Plus! with an Athlon XP 1800+. The ram i put on the board is a chip of Crucial 512MB DDR266 PC2100. I installed XP and drivers, etc. and the system runs fine so I bought and added another stick of the same ram, CT6464Z265. Only difference I can see between the chips is that the newer one has GT2 added to the serial number.
Now the system is fine until I decided to run World of Warcraft. I constantly get error 132 which says it cannot write to memory. I've played with the pagefile, disabled onboard sound (as per WoWs forums) and tried different sound drivers. And still error 132. I then decided to try each ram chip by itself. To my surprise, WoW runs fine with no crashes when either chip is used. But when you put both in, WoW crashes.
What could be the problem? I've tried putting the ram chips in different DIMM slots and still get the same error. I've run Windows memory checker and no errors. Why don't the chips work with each other if their the same type? Could a generation apart really make a difference? Please help!
