Bad_pool_caller - BSOD in XP...

HEy all, anyone run into this? I'm trying to get a Startech braned PCI serial port card installed in a MPC Client-Pro 365 workstation. I get a bsod with a "Bad_pool_caller" error shortly after the windows login screen appears. When I remove the drivers, and uninstall the card, all is well. I've tried different drivers, and contacted the card manufactuer, they were of no help.

The reall frustrating part is, I have an identical workstation, with the exact same version of Windows XP, which doesn't give me this stop error.

Any idaes?

try swapping the working card in the other station into the non working system, then reinstall.

When I had that problem, it was caused by a broken driver that corrupted the memory pool upon verification tests.

Try to find a better driver, (either update or check MS downloads for a whql one)

How can I update or reinstall a driver, when my computer stops shortly after the login screen appears ...

usually booting into safe mode bypasses the driver. That's how I was able to remove it.

By the way, I never was able to get this damn serial card to work in this machine. Quite frustrating.

Can you try to (Press F8 during boot) Enable Boot Logging.
Then at least there is a chance you can see how far it gets loading.

What you could also try is going into BIOS and disabling pci

I got that BSOD from a bad driver corrupting the memory pool....
