1.1 news
That's right - you heard it here first. It's been a little over a month since Badaboom? Media Converter 1.0 came out and version 1.1 is waiting in the wings with some awesome new features that will be available to the public in mid-December. Here's your sneak preview of the new features in version 1.1 which give Badaboom? users added versatility and enhanced performance through the following updates:

? Support for additional input file formats and containers: DivX, Xvid, MpegPEG-1, VC-1, AAC Audio, AVI, MKV, among others. The file formats supported by Badaboom 1.0 will still be supported as well.

? New output profiles: YouTube, Blackberry Bold and Microsoft Zune have been added. User-customizable outputs are available as well.

? H.264 Main profile output: Provides even higher quality output than version 1.0, especially useful when outputting at resolutions higher than 480p. Baseline profile is still supported.

? 1920x1080 (1080p) output: The largest standard ATSC video resolution now available is an output option, which provides great video quality when combined with Main profile.

? Multi-GPU capability: Effectively doubles the transcode performance of Badaboom 1.0, cutting transcoding time in half as the user can simultaneously run two separate videos on two Badaboom applicationsCut transcoding time in half by running . For computers with NVIDIA SLI technology for running multiple NVIDIA GPUs in a system, users can lLaunch one Badaboom for each NVIDIA GPUs in the system and transcode multiple videos at the same time. For example, Wwith the Badaboom 1.1 version of this feature, two NVIDIA GPUs can transcode two movies in the time it would take Badaboom? 1.0 to transcode one. Each NVIDIA GPU works on a different video to get the work done twice as fast.

Of course, each future release expands the product?s capability and market footprint. So, that means that once you have your Badaboom? Media Converter the features will just keep coming! Be sure to stay tuned for when you can officially start downloading your update (for free!) or purchasing this newest version of Badaboom?.

Multi GPU is not yet supported. Divx is also not supported...

I am a little disappointed.

Big bada boom!
/5th Element

Is there anything equivalent to this for ATI cards other than the AVIVO encoder?

Ati has Stream. It is coming out in a few weeks (I think I heard December 10th) with the 8.12 drivers as nosfe said.

The full version is going to be free, which is a really nice "feature"

Alright I bit and I tried it.

So far I'm getting 40-50fps at the default settings. On a 1h30min movie it's saying it can encode it in 50 minutes.

IMO this is quite good. I'll let you guys know how the output file looks and what format it's in (hopefully h.264).

I'm running an 8800gts 320mb.

Ok I really like this software!

54mins to encode the 1h30min movie.

It produced a 1.5gb file with excellent quality.

Again, I used the default settings.

Very nice! Too bad it's not cheaper/free.

The watermark is unobtrusive on a widescreen movie.

Ehhh... I use Fair Use Wizard to convert movies to Ipod Touch format. Takes about 35 minutes to convert a 90-100 minute movie to a 700MB MP4. Doesn't convert BluRays though.

If this thing did BluRay's I'd consider it.

To get the level of quality I just got in Badaboom, it used to take HandBrake about 12 hours on my Opteron 165 to do the same thing that just took 50 minutes.

I did an encode at full DVD resolution. The iPod I'm sure uses a lower resolution, and the quality must suffer for you to do it that fast using a CPU.

My one gripe is the sound quality. I'm going to try upping the bitrate.

Just wow!
Badaboom2 will be a killer product once it will add the Blue Ray support!
Go CUDA

I've given up encoding dvd's, I just rip them as ISO's. The quality is better and size is not an issue with the cost of hard drives these days.
