I am here all over from India, Need the expertise from worldwide readers . Please post your comments.

I am a NEtworking Engineer for a Private Comapany here, also taking care of Databases. and also a die-hard gamer
I am planning to buy a new PC,I was a hardcore intel Fan.
But due to recommendations from a few friends, I thought of giving AMD a try. I am planning short on my new PC budget.
hence, looking for good advice from everyone here.

I have few options here:

FOR AMD;
AMD Athlon XP 2800+, 3000+, 3200+ (Barton)
Asus A7N8X DELUXE MOBO.
512 MB DDR Ram. Transcent. (only this is the available RAM module available locally here)

FOR INTEL:
2.4 Ghz 800 FSB and 3.0 GHZ 800 fSB (only these 2 models for 800 FSB are available locally, )
Mobo - Asus i865P Chipset Mobos only
Ram - same as for AMD.

( I cant purchase online, coz none of the stores suplly to Asian Countries, specially India )
My computer will be used 24*7 days, i will have a couple of OSs running on it, Linux, Solaris, XP and 2003.
and also A few Database Servers like MS SQL 2000 and Oracle.
And also its gonna be used a lot for gaming.

PLease recommend me, Can i GO FOr AMD, If I need to utilize my PC for things mentioned above.
I am very Confused @ the moment, hence, waiting for some real Good Tech-HELP from Geeks out here.

For the money, the 2800+ Barton is probably going to be your best bet. It would perform better than your P4 2.4GHz, cost less, and in the long run, probably provide less wear on your components. Your motherboard choice for AMD is good, and as you said, you have no real choice for RAM, so....

Go with AMD, and I feel certain you'll be happy with your choice.

sandyk20, I'd go with the Barton 2800+ as well. I feel the Barton will give you better overall performance in CPU utilization at a better price than the Intel. The Intel setup should have overall faster I/O which may make the DB apps run a little better and as for gaming both should be about equal.

thnx a lot m8.

I was just worried about 1 thing.
I do not have a AC at my Home.
I on gonna run my PC at the room temparature only.
was just worried if, these would burn or degarde the performance of the AMD processor. as its gonna be kept on everytime.
Only except when i wanna reboot, in case switching from ONE OS to another OS.

thats a very important thing i am worried about.

And also planning to out ATI Raedon 9800 Pro 256 Mb in near future.

Regards,
Sandeep

Overclocking is a sinch with Barton + Nforce2 Combo's...a 2500+ can do 3000+ easily with stock cooling (mine does...well I have the Coolermaster HAC-V81..)

I agree with the oc'ing a 2500+ they oc to 2800+ speed super easy, and most will hit up to 3200+ with stock cooling, I would suggest getting an oem 2500+ one of these (on a 17' monitor with 1024x768 the 1st pic is very near life size, this is a very large heat sink with an 80mm fan) if you want a silent hsf with very decent cooling, or one of these if you have one of those micro ATX cases that don't have much head room, it's a very short hsf with the same cooling features as my 1st recomendation, but you can hear a little hum from this one when it's fan is on full throttle. If you don't feel comfortabel oc'ing, go with the 2800+ barton for games, it's at a good price and is a good gamer, but if you have the choice for a 2500+ with a radeon 9700pro or a 2800+ and a nvidea ti-4600, you'd be better on gaming with the 2500+ and 9700pro for the same price as the 2800+ and the ti4600.

I thought about suggesting a 2500+ myself, but especially if there's plans to OC (which he didn't really express), no AC may prove to be a factor. I'd stick with a decent higher speed Barton and let it putter along happily with a stock fan.

Thnx all for your replies,

Thats correct, I am not plannint to overclock the machine.
and thats why would prefer buying 2800+ (Barton)

I do have 3000+ and 3200+ (both Barton) available locally.

Can i go for those. ??
