As for play by play it would have to be Al Michaels.

For color commentating it would have to be Joe Theismann. I'm biased toward him because he's my favorite player of all time and played for my favorite team. I still liked his game knowledge which he seemed to convey well.

FWIW - I like Tirico. He's a nice guy who isn't over absorbed in himself. I like the chemistry of the MNF guys. I didn't like it last year but Tony K. and Mike T. along with Jaws are growing on me.

Give me this group over Phil Simms any day. That guy couldn't put a cohesive thought together if he had it written out on flashcards.

This year's crew is doing a good job, IMO. Mike Tirico is much better than Paul McGuire.

Ron Jaworski actually offers some insightful commentary and isn't afraid to call out players who are playing poorly. Theisman wouldn't criticize anyone, and his chemistry with Kornheiser was terrible.

I'm a big fan of Kornheiser from PTI, and I think he's getting steadily better on Monday Night. I don't like ESPN's gimmicky "Tony segments", but during the game he offers some light humor without being intrusive or annoying.

I miss Mike Patrick from ESPN SNF. with the exception of Theisman, that was a pretty fun crew. they were liquored up the entire time, and EVERY play was the best play ever for Patrick based on the way he called it. Theisman was tolerable when McGuire (as lame as he was) would call him out on his BS.

No Jimmy Kimmel fan, but I did enjoy his appearance as a guest last year.

I put Al Michaels below Bob Costas. I wish Costas would do the WS again....
Kornheiser is awesome on PTI--but I agree that he sucks for MNF. I don't dislike him, he's way better than Theisman, but he just doesn't fit in.

I actually love Madden. I watch him for the same reasons--to laugh at him. It's like finding a way to tolerate Bill Walton's commentating (the worst in sports history). some years ago (when I still watched the NBA) he was teamed up with Snapper...Johnson? (remember Snapper..but not his last name). Bill Walton would blurt out a typical asinine comment, Snapper would simply reply: "What the h--- are you talking about?"

People rag on Madden way to much IMO. Yeah, sometimes his comments are quite obvious but whatever, so the fvck what. He's a down to earth, likable guy, and he is extremely knowledgeable about the game. Especially about the play of the linemen. Anyone can talk about quarterbacks, but Madden will point out all of the key blocks and tackles made by those often overlooked players.
