So while they play partisan politics our credit markets continue their spiral downward.

The bailout is unpopular with the public. Why is it the responsibility of the Dem's to fall on their swords? So the Rep's don't have to?

I know the Repubulicans came out yesterday and cried about Pelosi's idiotic speech, but I am beginning to think there is much more to this. If this was the end-of-world thing that it has been preached to us as, then why was the Senate supposed to vote 2 days after the House vote? It seems like the goons in the Senate were using the House vote to figure out the political fallout from this; if you were in the House, would you appreciate being used like that? Also, the lack of arm-twisting by the Democrat leadership surprises me for such an important issue.

As many have stated, the Dems could have passed this without any support from the Republicans, which I would expect them to do if this bailout was such a wonderful idea. I think though also that some of the Republicans saw many of the Dems voting against the bill and decided to stick to their gut and vote against it. Now that the bill has failed, the news is preaching armageddon on a whole new level and blaming the Republicans for everything. This whole issue just strikes me as being engineered to come up right before the election and throw it to Obama.

Something must be done, but that bill sucked. It needs to be rewritten completely in my opinion.

Did I just read that the dollar is gaining huge on the Euro today? Could that possibly be because we decided not to print another $1 Trillion of our fake money?

I didnt say it was their responsibility did I? However if the democrats truely wanted this passed as the house speaker brought it to the floor for a vote they could have done it without that much help from the republicans. They have 40% of their own not vote for the thing.

No, it's because the theory of "delinking", where everybody thought that the US' problems would stay the US' problems, has been debunked. Now that euro banks are having to do excercize the same, or even more extreme, measures the US has to prop up the financial system, people are realizing that the USD isn't as bad, in relative comparison, as the Euro currencies.

People focus way too much on the "printing money" bullshit. The rescue plan had nothing to do with printing money.

How's our failed trader who ignored the housing problem, predicting it was going to be "regional"? You've got such far-reaching insight that you can't see past your own arm length.

Stick to what you know best, burger flipping. That way you can't fuck the economy up even worse by ignoring the problem like you did before. Partly, if it werent' for people like you who can't see past their arms, we wouldn't be here.

Let me know when you get the axe. I might even give you a job as a fry cook.

Only if you can actually run anything more than a cash register.

How's your prognostication about no housing bubble doing? I guess this fry cook knew better than the register bitch.

I'm trying to help you out. When you lose your job and can't pay your apartment rent and get evicted, let me know. I don't like seeing people starve.

If you want to have a conversation about economics, making statements like that don't help.

Nobody is printing any money.

Because they believe its in the best interests of the country? What ever happened to real statesmen and when was the argument "your side is doing the wrong thing so my side can too" become valid?

At least you see the reality of our current politicians. They care more about reelection and party politics than they care about the country.

We all knew this in the back of our heads but I think this episode is definitive proof of it. We need another revolution. Send Pelosi to the guillotine first.

Sorry, I thought this was supposed to be a bipartisan deal. As far as support goes, the (R) president was pushing for it as well and 2/3 of his party didn't vote for it.

If they do decide to press on with this 700b debt buying extravaganza.
What ultimately needs to be done is get these sub-prime variables moved to fixed. We as a government need to take equity stakes in these banks. There should be a website setup to show the taxpayer exactly what is going on with their money.

If Paulson wants to play investment banker with the American Taxpayer money please by all means give us an account so we can see how well our investment is doing.

I want full transparency of where this money is going and why. I want the federal reserve put under a microscope.

We own the government we put these people in power. We should know full well what they are doing.

They should no longer just hand out a 300-3000page booklet on what is going on that won't be digested until it has already gone through. We are living in a swallow now taste later country.

If this bailout doesn't come, I will revive this thread in 6 months and we can do another tally of ' who got a paycheck '.

Sorry, Bush doesn't qualify, he doesn't give a shit what his party thinks - he does what he thinks is right. He gets off with a slap on the wrist.

Pelosi on the other hand is a partisan wise and beautiful woman whore who needs to be publicly humiliated and guillotined.
