That´s because I´m a Happy Linuxer, in the third world like they say, I woudn´t recomend people buy Microsoft O.S. over their food,
nor recomend Starter Edition. Linux for all. They are trying to create a new society mirrored in the problems we have today, trying to
make social scales based on O.S.
Our global society just sucks, imagine a copy of this defects in their digital exclusion society ?

Violence.

But the violence in digital area has it´s names, Virus, Trojans, Spywares, etc.

They are offering a cure for the disease they leave growing over the years, and telling us that is the ecossystem. They fight piracy before the virus, why ?
They leave a failed ecossystem growth, now they are only justifying for themselves and for people what everyone was seeing over the years of the new information era.

At least we have a chance to fix the history with Linux. Without the digital exclusion disease they continue trying to push with their prices.
No Ballmer. It´s not piracy affecting Vista, Nor Linux,

It´s the price we don´t want to pay. The Eula we don´t want. The limitations and the complexity we don´t need

Do you know what I hate worse then greedy people?

Fanactics.

Open your eyes to the real world. While Gates is the best businessman I've ever heard of, he also has done a lot of good in the world with the foundation he founded.

I know a lot of bullsh!t comes out of the mouth of Bill Gates and Ballmer, but that's typical marketing for you.

No one ever claimed that they were honest business men. In fact, the most successful business men are anything but honest. (I could be wrong but it's my opinion)

greylica,

Before you spew vitriolic comments about people, it would serve you well to do some basic research about the targets of your comments. For instance, here's one of the men that you claim doesn't care that there are people dying for food everyday:

So next time you decide to write some rant that makes you sound like some kind of knuckle dragging, mouth breathing lunatic, think first.

I'd like to punch Ballmer in his fat face... one of his body guards would turn me into a human pretzel before I had the chance.

All the FUD is sooooo unneeded and uncalled for.

MS... just focus on developing good software.

What's this? They want to sue Linux, but they have an argument vs AT&T, that states (I will Bold it for you)

http://www.betanews.com/article/Supreme...s_Patentability_of_Software/1172097039

During oral arguments this morning, Microsoft attorney Theodore Olson, responding to a barrage of questions from Justices Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia, attacked AT&T's position with a novel argument that you might not expect to hear from Microsoft: In short, you can't patent source code or object code.

but, but...they do it!

Anyway, they were just caught with a patent lawsuit, resulting in $1.52BILLION, now, who will pony that up? Microsoft, and the shareholders? or will that be passed onto the consumer too?

http://www.cioinsight.com/article2/0,1540,2097780,00.asp

Of course they will appeal.

A little off topic, but not worthy of another thread.

MS's Application compatibility list...Focus on the "Works with Vista" list...Where is: Adobe (entire line), Firefox (oh yeah, it works), Open Office (works also), Symantec (they huwt MS's feelings?), Skype...Games also don't earn the logo? hmm...

The list:

The article in question:

Microsoft has been successfully sued several times by patent holders.

They are a easy target because nobody feels sorry for them and they have a lot of money.

One of the more famous ones was the University of California (aka Eolas) sued Microsoft for having the ability to use browser plugins with Internet Explorer.

edit:

Also note that these sorts of companies that do software patent lawsuits generally don't actually produce any software themselves. They just buy the patents from some other failing company or come into it in some other way and then sue somebody with a lot of money.

Since they don't make any software they are immune to counter lawsuit, which is what would happen if Novell tried to sue Sun or something like that.

You've never heard of Warren Buffett? Now THAT is the best businessman in the world. Anyone whose stock (Berkshire Hathaway Inc.) goes for $107,000+ a share has to be doing something right.

Getting Berkshire Hathaway stock is almost as diffficult to get as getting Green Bay Packers season tickets - which the last time I heard the waiting list was estimated to take over 50 years to get them.

Buffett is the man.

Yes, open your eyes. Gates is a businessman, pure and simple. People with that much wealth created by hard nose business techniques, stay hard nose. If you like Microsoft, fine. If you feel that there is no need for competition, fine. But, if your going to try to make Gates out as some sort of saint, think a little harder.

yikes. Didn't know about that. I'll retract my words. He's simply a business man out there to make a buck from anyone.

PS: I never claimed he was a saint. EVER. I lost respect for the guy a long time ago.

L.A. Times == Useless P.O.S. rag that cares far more about their political stance then anything remotely resembling news.

Don't beleive anything you read from them unless you get it independantly verified.

edit:

Also there is a such thing as honest businessmen and honest businesses. A lot of corporations and other business types actually have legitament purposes behind them and goals that make making profits secondary (although profitability is a solid requirement for continued existance of these companies)

Bill Gates isn't one of them and neither is Microsoft. Most publicly traded companies tend to have pure profit motivations since that is what the investors (who ultimately are the ones that own the company) tend to care about most.

Ballmer has until May 1st, to show the code that infringes copyrights

It's already obvious that they don't violate copyrights. There is no Microsoft code in Linux.

Patents are entirely different law entirely.

Comparing patents and copyright is sort of like if you get charged with speeding and reckless driving and you try to get out of it by showing up to court with your pay stubs and recepts to show that your paying your taxes.

That is to say that one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Completely irrelevent.

That is why Microsoft and other software companies can be sued by people who don't actually make any software.

One of the things that happen is software companies go out of business all of the time. Most have a couple patents for something they've made and part of the bankrupcy they will sell off company assists.
A group of lawyers will then get together and buy the patents.
After they get the patents then they will go after anybody that has enough money to cover the costs of the court case.

Most of the time it's much cheaper to pay these people off then actually going to court so you generally you aren't going to hear about it.

Since these lawyers don't actually produce software there is no copyrights to violate. To violate copyright you would actually have to steal source code.

To violate patents all you have to do is make your own software from scratch. You do not even have to know the software patent exists.

In fact the courts expect that you violate patents without knowing anything about it. I've been told that if the courts think that you did have prior knowledge of patents then your fines triple.

Yes, show us the code Ballmer.
Be a courageous person, show to all of us the code that you said it was stolen.
Here in Brazil we are waiting too.
