That's the great thing about 2 strokes, insane specific output compared to a 4 stroke. Towards the end of the life cycle in 2002, they were getting 86-87hp from 250cc in those machines (which weight 230lbs or so). The Yamaha TZ250s were legendary for their speed.

I got to go for the 100 year anniversary, these guys are amazing!! We were sitting on a church stone wall with the bikes going by 6 feet away at approx 160-170 mph(was the race when McGuiness broke the 130 mph lap barrier). Even crazier, we went to the Southern 100, in Castletown, on Saturday of race week. A mass start, the first turn is a 90 degree right hand corner a mile and and a half from the start!! Real road racing at its best.

TZ250s are awesome little bikes. Them and the NSR250s. I've wanted to get one as a dedicated track bike...

The 2003 model spec was 91.7 BHP and 224.4lb.
