Be careful wanting the spotlight shining on you. It may uncover what you didn't want to be seen.

Hoax.

I would just like to say regardless of whether or not this is a hoax or not, these people have already been found guilty by the media, which means they are fucked.

There is nothing they can do now to change that and any proof they could possible dig up to defend themselves will be completely tossed aside or destroyed. Seriously, they are fucked.

Remember Scott Peterson. I remember they barely had a case on him and it was a nonstop media circus until they finally found him guilty and put him on death row.

The facts remain. It smells like a duck, it walks like a duck, it quacks like a duck...it must be a duck. The pitchforks are out and rightfully so. Make this family pay for the consequences of their stupid decisions.

They found one hair, that MIGHT have been his wife's, on his boat and he was an adulterer. That was about it. Go read up on it.

EDIT: I even linked it for you. Go Edumacate yourself.

I remember the trial and they had his GF's testimony and a hell of a lot more evidence than "one hair". A guy doesn't go to death row on "one hair".

Thank god we have the brave media to speculate about shit until everyone is convinced it is fact. I am just waiting for Glenn Beck to join in, this story is perfect for him to conjecture his ass off.

I don't know. Remember, Steve Fossett guided (or attempted to) guide that giant balloon around the earth - it didn't pop when it got higher and higher, and he needed a pressurized chamber to stay in.

I think the only way we could know for sure is to run a science experiment. Hmmmmm.... now where are we going to find a family that likes to do science experiments and brings up their kids to have no fears (except of Dad.)?

Actually, the higher you go, the less pressure is exerted on the outside of the balloon, so it will eventually expand past the material's breaking point and pop. This is what happens to weather balloons.

My post was a joke. And, of course, an unprotected balloon would pop. However, I don't think it would be too challenging to build a balloon that wouldn't pop. You'd need a balloon that could be pressurized to about 30psi at sea level & not pop. I imagine this could be done by altering the thickness of the latex & by using a supporting mesh/fabric around the balloon that would resist it expanding beyond a certain size.

Not that this is a very important aspect of this thought experiment, but the severe temperature drop would also help keep the pressure below the popping threshold. I wonder how high you could get without any other support material after factoring in the pressure drop due to temperature.

The GF's testimony was that he said lied and said he was a widower. Let's be honest, he isn't the first guy to use that one to get laid.

What the hell are you talking about? It's not the media doing the speculation. It's the facts that the event just don't add up.

Oh, that's right. When the media speculate and report that a black woman was raped by duke lacrosse players it's accepted fact when the actual facts say otherwise.

I'll rail against the media right beside you, but this shit stinks. Doesn't pass the sniff test, it stinks.

Hey that Lacrosse thing was just as bad. And to be honest, I think the media was much more concerned with hanging that ADA out to dry then anything. I don't think we ever really got any "facts" on any sides of that story, except that the only thing the prosecutor was concerned about was his name in lights.

I agree that there are some problems with the whole story, but shove enough cameras and mics into anyone's face and you'll get some incriminating shit on them.
It is the very basis in interrogation. Get the person talking long enough and you will get them to slip. Then you can run with it.

I had a little run in with the law a few years ago when my car was stolen. 8 months later when the prints finally came back they were able to arrest some kid who had a history of joy riding, but up to that point the cops were convinced I wrecked my own car drunk and was trying to rip off my insurance. I was completely innocent and being completely honest with them and still I was nervous as piss and making all sorts of mistakes that they would then harp on and play out. Fuck they had me calling my girlfriend by the wrong name.

It is really easy to say wrong answers when you are stressed and nervous.

I think that one little phrase by a scared confused 6 year old is nothing to start a witchhunt about. But this is sensational and its a cold slow week so what the hell. Let's start collecting sticks and setting up the scales (I mean the only way we are going to get to the bottom of this is if we find out whether or not the dad weighs the same as a duck).

Right. No witch hunt needed on singular events. It when one puts them all together with a history of behavior that eyebrows should be raised.

I'll also concede the media trying to make a story out of it. But the history makes it a story in the OP.
