It's my third time around, but I just started watching it again tonight.
I don't know why, but the series has given me a much, much greater appreciation for anyone who serves their country in the military. Especially since the paratroopers were made entirely of volunteers, who were willing to do whatever it took to be the best. I'm sure the extra $50 a month didn't hurt either.
I've read the book by Stephen Ambrose and found it equally enjoyable. I've gotten into WW2 history since watching the series the first time, and enjoy any book by Ambrose. I especially recommend D-Day, as it provides an in-depth look into the years of preparation and huge scale assault that took place on June 6, 1944.
