No shock to me, most of these huge producers were cheating. I could never buy the fact that some company or school out there would allow running seti on 1000's of PC's. Not that the client is trouble but....Crazee brings up one BIG point....BANDWIDTH!

The guy in charge of all of the computer science machines runs seti on them at my university. They are running unix and I don't think many people know about it. I always wondered why my cpu usage was 100%, so I finally looked up the show processes command and found seti running. I'd say he has at least 500 machines plus servers under his command. All of them are at least 500 mhz with some up to 2.4ghz.

He might just dump at night to avoid clogging up the network.

Wanna get him to join TA?

He's one of the people I like least in this world to put it nicely.

I was reading the thread over at starfire and I think that it is wrong that anyone would defend him in any way or to admire that he admitted that he cheated.

He is a rotton person to the core, he will in my opinion cheat, lie, steal, and use whatever means he has at his disposal to get what he considers important to his life. If I were his employer he would be fired, he cannot be trusted under any circumstances.

I dunno if I'd fire him but I'd sure has heck not defend him. Bandai's a friggin cheater and were it not for Berkeley doing something about it he would still be cheating today. There's nothing honorable about that.

Wow... just finished reading the thread at BBR.

I can't imagine getting caught up in cheating for ANY DC projects. I get excited to see what I have produced legitimately... I've been crunching with TeAm for about a month and joined with 79 completed WUs, and I'm gonna hit 250 tomorrow. All the new WUs have been crunched with my new system, and one I have assimilated from work. I've had offers to have others crunch for me to help me get to 1000 before the project stops, and I hesitate because I want to see how much I can really do on my own. I can't believe this guy cheated to get the extra WUs... What the hell is the point?

I suppose I feel sorry for him in a way that he got caught up in cheating and (so he says) is sorry, but oh well. There is no room for cheating in this DC project or any other. I'm glad he wasn't part of our group here, or we would all be saying "See ya" like the group at BBR are telling him now.

Can you imagine if we were able to harness all the "hate" energy that has been generated toward the cheating, and put it to good use? geez.....

Anyway... that's my take on this.

So that means no sweet talking the guy at your uni into joining TA then? That would be good for the TeAm to get all those running for us!

I seemed to remember someone posting a thread a few weeks back about this ,only then it was just a strong suspicion
(wasn't that you Smokeball who spotted that his account had vanished?)

Anyway ,SETI gave him what he deserved!

I don't run SETI-- and I rarely even speak up in this forum-- but I feel sorry for the project as a whole with all this cheating being uncovered. Also, BBR does not deserve any blame for this scandal. It seems to me that they have been an honorable team and that none of them truly suspected what was happening. Some, and only some, of them are being, er, too sympathetic for him over at their forum, but if one of our high-producing TeAm members were discovered to be cheating (although I am confident none of them are), then I think we would be relatively forgiving.

Best wishes to BBR, the TeAm, and project SETI @ Home; may the cheating be behind you now.

I don't think anyone is holding any blame or grudges against BBR, they're a good team.

We welcome their competition - we'll be here for them. Well.. maybe around here for them.

*edited slightly for accuracy.

We are not a victim. He left team before he was found out. All his being found out as a cheat cost us was energy in his apology thread.

He also apologized to Anandtech in his note, "That time my childish stupidity of stomping anatech got the best of me and I went the wrong path".

There is an old saying "to err is to be human". Many humans never face up to the err of their ways, he has, but only after being caught. I can't speak for all on the TeAm but I accept his apology and wish him well on his own personal journey of repentance.

I've only met him a few times, plus i'm done with all of my comp sci courses finally. I'll mention it to him if I see him around, but he doesn't get out much.
