Not a really big fan of Korn but I do like their earlier music (especially Follow the leader) and even some early 2000 songs as well.

So I looked up their newer album on You Tube....and get this, they have gone Dubstep???

WTF?

Not only that, they paired up with the Skirlex douche?

Jesus Christ, WTF Has happened here?

Maybe their taste in music has changed over the years. Or maybe they feel the new sound will make them more money.

Skrillex made $13 million last year and just needs to carry a flash drive. It's a tough go for real bands these days.

they could just fade away like most other bands that don't want to change their music and run out of ideas for good songs

I can't think of many bands that last more than 10+ years and still produce music that people still actually like. Maybe Aerosmith, they had some hits in the 90's, twenty years after their debut, but nothing worthwhile lately. Rush still puts out albums, and Rush fans seem to like them, but they're not as good as their classic albums. Talking heavy metal, three of the big 4 (Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica) are still putting out albums, but they pale in comparison to their classic stuff. Pick any genre of music, and any of the greats that have lasted 10+ years have probably done so by touring and playing their early music.

Well, atleast they did not do what Blur does. They just claim a reunion, play these concerts and release these singles along with yet another anniversary box sets. They then toy around with the idea of making a new album, then say it is not going to happen, but then say it is still in the works when they realize that making the breakup official would mean less money for them. Oh, then they make these statements about how they are not doing it for the money because they only got paid a quid doing some events.

Monster Magnets latest album was very good. Probably one of my favorite rock albums that has come out in a while. Huge turn around from the forgettable albums they've had since "Spacelord" made them sorta popular.

I'm surprised Korn is still around. They were big when I was in high school but I haven't heard from them since. Ugh, that awful late 90s "alt metal". All sounds the same.

Red hot chili peppers and Foo Fighters are the only 2 keeping it going and maybe Greenday

Sad to hear.

First time I even heard of Korn was when they opened for Ozzy on his Retirement Sucks tour in 1996. Went up to Madison with a bunch of buddies and had a blast. They kicked ass back then.

They changed their style because nobody listens to nu-metal anymore (and for good reason).

Red Hot Chili Peppers

In contrast to the opinion of the OP, I personally find RHCP to be a good example of why a band should change things up a bit over time.

I can't stand to listen to them anymore, because it all sounds the same (IMO, of course).

I'm kind of the opposite. I liked Korn's very early stuff, but pretty much hated everything in between. I actually really like their newest album...I suppose because I like industrial and it has that kind of flavor to it.

That being said, most of the bands you are talking about are play it safe radio friendly bands. That's a different beast than bands that do not get air time. There are plenty of bands out there that have been around for many years and are better than they used to be, they just don't get air time (either ever or any more).

Well, Nickelback is still alive and kicking. Take from that what you will. Actually that's what Korn reminded me of when I revisited some of their stuff on YouTube. D:

Seriously? In no way would i consider Nickleback to be nu-metal.

Although, i wonder why people listen to them as well...

Korn was only good if you were an angsty kid. I always hated that an amazing band like Tool got lumped in with their crap.

You forgot Iron Maiden. Final Frontier is a great album.

Maiden is good or bad now? I'm a Huge iron maiden fan, but I don't listen to much of anything after Bruce's first departure. I gave Dance of Death a whirl, but it didn't have that hook that the early albums have.

I can't stop listening to Powerslave. It's been on my player for about a month nonstop.
