Maiden is good or bad now? I'm a Huge iron maiden fan, but I don't listen to much of anything after Bruce's first departure. I gave Dance of Death a whirl, but it didn't have that hook that the early albums have.

I can't stop listening to Powerslave. It's been on my player for about a month nonstop.

Maiden are still good. Brave new world was a good comeback album for Bruce. I enjoyed some stuff on Dace of Death (the title song and journeyman are both great songs imo). I have not listened to Matter of Life and death but Final Frontier is good, different to some of their other stuff but really interesting and the more times you listen to it the better it gets.

The point was that even after 32 years they are still releasing good stuff even if their Blaze Bailey era was disappointing it is not as bad as St Anger.

I can't think of many bands that last more than 10+ years and still produce music that people still actually like. Maybe Aerosmith, they had some hits in the 90's, twenty years after their debut, but nothing worthwhile lately. Rush still puts out albums, and Rush fans seem to like them, but they're not as good as their classic albums. Talking heavy metal, three of the big 4 (Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica) are still putting out albums, but they pale in comparison to their classic stuff. Pick any genre of music, and any of the greats that have lasted 10+ years have probably done so by touring and playing their early music.

Only Anthrax album that was good enough to still sound modern'ish today is Sound of White Noise. Their problem has always been changing lead singers too much. their classics varied too much between what was good and horrible...i detest their rap/rock mix stage they went through.
Slayer still sounds pretty much the same to me, i have most all their albums including the first one, aside from the higher pitch screaming of their earlier releases, it hasn't changed really.

Really, you think Slayer sounds the same? I'm wary of applying nostalgic notions to music, since Seasons was a pinnacle album in my musical explorations, and Reign In Blood still stands as one of the greatest metal albums of all time, but everything after Divine Intervention (which was almost 20 years ago now!) I haven't much cared for.

GOOD
"The Final Frontie"r is great and "A Matter of Life and Death" which came out ~5 years ago is even better

preferences aside, its the same style they have always played is what i'm saying. I mean they didn't go dub step or try new things like Smashing Pumpkins did or anything

Worship Music is excellent.

A lot of the bands I like have been putting out quality music for 20+ years. Accept, Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell/Dio (RIP RJD), Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, King's X, the big 4 of thrash, Rush, Scorpions, etc.

I love Judas Priest, Ozzy, NIN and Van Halen, but they've released progressively worse music over the years IMHO.

I saw Iron Maiden live recently and my ass WAS KICKED. This was the fourth time in the past 20 years that I've seen them, including one utterly FORGETTABLE time with Blaizes Blasily or whatever the fk his name was. I still am not a fan of them adding a 3rd guitarist, but I can say that he honesly rocked out, even if he played only rhythm for 2 straight hours. The all-orginal lineup (plus guitarist #3) put on one hell of a show. Bruce's pipes are still all that and a bag of chips AND he ran around like a cracked-out spider monkey with it's ass on fire. What a show! Maiden is absolutely still relevant.

Nobody mentioned MEGADETH, one of my all-time favorite metal bands. Given "13" a listen? You NEED TO. That album was released in the last year or so and almost every track rocks. Mustaine can still hit the high notes and shred that fingerboard and the band is tighter than ever. Your ass will be kicked.

Well, I mentioned the big 4 in my earlier post.

Yes...why yes you did. Sorry about that. The concerts that Slayer/Anthrax/Megadeth have done together must've been awesome. Metallica used to be so awesome...until they got all pussified and needed a therapist (also known as "the rapist") to work out their differences so they could "go on playing together."

Metallica is one of my favorites (Megadeth is on top). I've liked most of their work and I was even a St. Anger apologist. I agree the therapy stuff was garbage...as was the Lulu collaboration. I'm just glad Death Magnetic (aside from the production) rocks.

Iron Maidens albums need a re-mix or something. They sound BAD.

I would say Van Halen went off a cliff. Best band in the world at one time now just a bunch of dysfunctional losers.

They had a band psychologist, LOL. He would leave notes all over the studio to inspire the band like, "Be all you can Be".

Work 4 hours a day and get mad if someone works more than 4 hours. I do like the Black album and think it was iconic and a few tunes before and maybe a couple after that album but I hate the band itself. The members are...well, dicks. That documentary was a BAD idea.

And hey, what's with Megadeth? Whats his name doesn't even play lead guitar himself anymore, just sings.

I think Megadeth's sound changed a bit after the Hanger 18 album, but not in a bad way. at first i was like wtf but then it grew on me and have liked most of their work since. Some of the 80's sound doesn't sound as good these days

Ok maybe there are some bands still kicking it after 20+ years, but those guys are getting old. And the super groups of the 60's are old. Frankly, people like the Rolling Stones, Ozzy, and Paul McCartney are going to be dead in a few years.

Who is the Keith Richards of modern music? The Eric Clapton of today? Who will replace Ozzy in metal? What band will have the staying power of Iron Maiden?

In contrast to the opinion of the OP, I personally find RHCP to be a good example of why a band should change things up a bit over time.

I can't stand to listen to them anymore, because it all sounds the same (IMO, of course).

I'm the same, every time they come on the radio I have to change it. Which is sad because they seem to be playing them a lot recently.

Can also add Matchbox twenty to the list, they've come back recently.

No it isn't.

yes it is

any band that been around for over 10 years obviously makes music people like or they wouldn't be around anymore. even shitty bands like nickelback. people out there like it so they keep getting paid to make more records.

id bet 80% of the music on my computer is of bands who have been around more that 10 years and people still like their music
