Maiden is good or bad now? I'm a Huge iron maiden fan, but I don't listen to much of anything after Bruce's first departure. I gave Dance of Death a whirl, but it didn't have that hook that the early albums have.
I can't stop listening to Powerslave. It's been on my player for about a month nonstop.
I can't think of many bands that last more than 10+ years and still produce music that people still actually like. Maybe Aerosmith, they had some hits in the 90's, twenty years after their debut, but nothing worthwhile lately. Rush still puts out albums, and Rush fans seem to like them, but they're not as good as their classic albums. Talking heavy metal, three of the big 4 (Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica) are still putting out albums, but they pale in comparison to their classic stuff. Pick any genre of music, and any of the greats that have lasted 10+ years have probably done so by touring and playing their early music.

Really, you think Slayer sounds the same? I'm wary of applying nostalgic notions to music, since Seasons was a pinnacle album in my musical explorations, and Reign In Blood still stands as one of the greatest metal albums of all time, but everything after Divine Intervention (which was almost 20 years ago now!) I haven't much cared for.

Only Anthrax album that was good enough to still sound modern'ish today is Sound of White Noise. Their problem has always been changing lead singers too much. their classics varied too much between what was good and horrible...i detest their rap/rock mix stage they went through.
Ozzy Osborne hasn't gone off a cliff.

Nobody mentioned MEGADETH, one of my all-time favorite metal bands. Given "13" a listen? You NEED TO. That album was released in the last year or so and almost every track rocks. Mustaine can still hit the high notes and shred that fingerboard and the band is tighter than ever. Your ass will be kicked.
Well, I mentioned the big 4 in my earlier post.

Yes...why yes you did. Sorry about that. The concerts that Slayer/Anthrax/Megadeth have done together must've been awesome. Metallica used to be so awesome...until they got all pussified and needed a therapist (also known as "the rapist") to work out their differences so they could "go on playing together."
Metallica is one of my favorites (Megadeth is on top). I've liked most of their work and I was even a St. Anger apologist. I agree the therapy stuff was garbage...as was the Lulu collaboration. I'm just glad Death Magnetic (aside from the production) rocks.
And hey, what's with Megadeth? Whats his name doesn't even play lead guitar himself anymore, just sings.
In contrast to the opinion of the OP, I personally find RHCP to be a good example of why a band should change things up a bit over time.
I can't stand to listen to them anymore, because it all sounds the same (IMO, of course).
No it isn't.
