I don't think it would be a problem for vocal mics. The big omni-directional ones would probably pick up unwanted drum sounds, but there are plenty of drummers who sing back up vocals, if nothing else.

I was actualyl just thinking that. Grohl was Nirvana's drummer, now he's the Foo's singer and guitarist.

I don't recall Grohl ever doing vocals while in Nirvana though. And he's strictly done guitar and lead vocals for Foo Fighters with the exception of one song in mind.

have you seen them live? I did at a festival back when Jenny Says was really popular. Man they are a great live act. They were then anyway.

In Dave Grohl's initial months in Seattle, Kurt Cobain overheard him working on a song called "Color Pictures Of A Marigold," and the two ended up jamming on it. During the sessions for In Utero, the band decided to record the song and released it as a B-side on the "Heart Shaped Box" single, titled simply "Marigold." It is the only Nirvana song to feature Dave Grohl on lead vocals

He's more than just a drummer. He's a jack of all trades when it comes to music. In an interview, he was commenting on how much harder drumming is than anything else just because of the physical side of it. After seeing him in a Foo Fighters concert, I can say that he's not just a singer....he's a performer.

He took his guitar off stage and started playing in the bleachers of a concert. Everyone started to gather around him. I got to see him then run up the steps into the concourse with a mob of people running after him....he had no security with him. I looked into the main concourse and say him running with his guitar slung on his back with this mob of people chasing him. He ran around the back of the stage and made it back to the other side of the bleachers where he could run down the steps to the stage....he did all of this and made it back to the mic just in time to sing his part. It was 10 times better than the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert....and they were the headliners.

Roger Taylor of Queen sang lead vocals on several of the band's songs.

The interesting thing about Queen was that even though they had one of the best singers in the history of rock, they actually traded lead vocal duty a fair amount, depending on who wrote the song. The exception was the bassist, who never sang his own songs.
