Basic problem with selecting a mattress, how it feels for 20 minutes has little bearing on how in feels after two weeks, which may be different from after two months.

Mattresses have half a dozen "parts", each of which can vary in quality and be combined to meet all sorts of price points, while looking the same on the outside.

Wife and I got the queen foam mattress from Costco. Wasn't particularly good.

We doubled down and got the tempurpedic queen mattress topper (?$400?) Was absolutely worth it. It transformed our crappy bed into super comfortable.

Have you considered a regular non baffled waterbed? You can get the mattress for <$100 and same goes for the frame if you get used like I did. It keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

These are also perfect if you like sleeping in the 80's

Personally a good coil spring mattress is a very good purchase as most will last years usually.

Meh, memory foam mattresses, unless you KNOW you are getting true 4lb+ density foam, which most are not, is a waste of money. Crappy foam mattresses will deform badly after 2-3 years or even quicker with an adult sleeping on it every night.

You don't run into the same problem when buying latex as you do with foam. But latex is usually far more expensive. However, IKEA tends to have decent full latex mattresses for reasonable prices.

Of which you can change out foam toppers/pads as needed as the the latex mattress base should last decades if not longer.

I've found that most innerspring mattress companies are selling 3 lines...they have the basic models, moderate, and premiums.... Depending on where you go, you get different model names/numbers of the same exact beds....possibly out of different regional factories. They do this so you can't get reliable pricing between different companies and so certain places can offer better sales....you know...what many companies do these days to pad commissions for retailers.

My recommendation is to buy a firm bed and add a topper if you think you want a more plush bed. That gives you the ability to wash the topper or even replace it if you need to. I've bought a few basic beds from Samsclub for relatively low money. I'm sure Costco could offer the same...just check the models they sell and do some coil count comparisons by looking them up online. They you can see how much you're saving based on a similar coil count in a model sold by another retailer.

Where is Bun Bun?

You spend approximately 1/3rd of your life on your back in your bed. Why would you not spend $1000 or more on a comfy mattress that you will keep for 5+yrs.

I slept on the floor in Korea for a little over a year. It wasn't that bad. In the summer I didn't have to turn on the AC much because the floor kept me cool. In the winter the heat from floor kept me warm. The floor isn't dirty in Asia because shoes are always left at the front door.

Coil count is one thing but so is the gauge of the coil. I rather have 900 14gauge coils then 1000 16gauge coils.

I got the firmest mattress I could find (1000coils at 14gauge) and its breaking in well after a couple weeks now. If it stays to firm I can always get a topper. But can't remove what's inside as easy too firm it up.

I guess I'm one of the few who use wood boards and lumber under an old spring coil mattress. The mattress is around 20 years old and of good coil quality. And I carefully shifted the 2x4, 2x6 lumber and 1x8 wood boards under the mattress just right so parts of my body lay comfortably. Haven't had to shift the boards for a few years.

Oh welcome SarahB

I have a queen spring mattress from Ikea, and it's the best mattress I've ever bought. Only nine or so months into it, but I am extremely happy.

I want to say it is the queen version of THIS SULTAN HANSBO.
