i don't see why any bank would not allow it. I opened my own bank account when I was 14 years old and had my first job.

Why don't you just have an account linked to your parents?

Your name will be on the account along with one of your parents. Same thing with the checks. Debit card will have your own name. Will also allow you to have access to their checking account features, such as higher interest rates, greater number of free checks, no fees, etc.

That's what I did when I first started working when I was 14.

when I was 16 it was a lot easier, banks today tend to require 2 forms of picture ID, school ID might cut it. You could get a State ID, and a passport, I can't speak on every bank, state but in CA at 30 I had issues opening an account without 2 forms of picture ID. Apparently they didn't want my money

Just curious, what are you doing for work? Congrats on the first job. Having money in high school rocks.

oh... i read some article about banks being reluctant to give minors accounts because minors can't be held responcible for bad checks and stuff or something

all the banks i've looked at (wachovia, boA, wells fargo, woodforest...) all claim to have free checking but i guess i'm sorta paranoid and keep thinking that there must be some catch, any ways which bank do you guys prefer?

TallBill- i got a job at subway. aside from the retarded white trash chicks that work there i am enjoying the job

Potoba- i'm in the woodlands... yeah lol we edited at the same time

thanks guys

have any of you guys dealt with wachovia? i'm leaning towards them because they have locations next to both the places i work at and they have socalled "catch free checking".

What bank is convenient to your home/work and has no fees and lots of branches?

I've been with regions bank for a few years and they have branches all over the south. Never had any problems.

Just about all the banks offer free checking, but you have to either maintain a minimum balance or have direct deposit of your paychecks. I think Washington Mutual and some of the smaller banks don't have that requirement as they just want your money. I think almost all banks will require you to have a parent co-sign a checking account if you're under the age of 18.

Did any here see this and feel awe at the naivety? Maybe, just maybe, some of us would not have trusted our parents to have full access to our funds.

That's a shame. Sometimes I trust my dad with my money moreso than I do myself.
