AMD is shipping the quad-core "Barcelona" Opteron to channel and distribution partners this week, according to an AMD spokesperson on Thursday. System vendors such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) are readying systems for shipment in the second quarter.

AMD is shipping the B3 version of the processor that fixes a TLB bug. Large vendors such as Dell, HP, and IBM have been waiting for this version of Barcelona to arrive before they begin shipping systems"

and only 6 months late...

""We expect to start shipping systems in early Q2," said HP spokesperson Eric Krueger on Thursday"

"Look for us to expand our portfolio (of systems) too," Krueger added. A Dell spokesperson confirmed that his company is also on track for shipment in the second quarter.

Barcelona was launched back in September of 2007 and has faced repeated production and bug-related delays. Earlier "B2" versions of Barcelona have been going to sophisticated, high-performance computing (HPC) customers who know how to work around the bug.

That's what the article was saying...they're shipping them in Q1 not Q2. It's the servers themselves that ship in Q2.

Man, that is good news. I really want to see AMD start getting back on track. tough to do that when you can't ship parts. The first true monolithic quad-core. Hopefully they can start racking up the clock speeds, and get the Phenoms squared away too. Competition is good for everybody, including Intel.

This is still a company headed by american executive management, you can rest assured the employee whippings are sizably more enthusiastic relative to any whippings a fanboy has sustained.
