I can't remember how he explained that away, or if it even came up in the original testimony. The standard play-dumb defense for injections is to say you thought it was a B-12 shot.

The two infamous Balco steroids were either applied to the skin or taken orally. "Arthritis cream" and "flaxseed oil."

Well, maybe his Governor can pardon him, he's an admitted steroid and marijuana user.

Since it's the Feds, however, maybe the President can pardon him, he's an admitted coke user.

no, they have to prove perjury and obstruction of justice, those are the charges
the question is what evidence they'll use to prove that. which we don't know yet

Nice... Federal too. He's done. And being the arrogant dumbass that he is he'll probably refuse the plea deal and have to eat the entire conviction and sentence.

Bye Barry... watch out for your cornhole.

Yep no time off for good behavior with the feds, mind you he have to have good behavior in the first place.

But the feds, as already pointed out, rarely bring charges unless there is some thing very strong.

He took steroids, so what? I am not a fan of baseball but I am assuming there is much more to it than that. Is the guy a big ahole?

Yeah pretty much. There have been countless names leaked that have admitted to taking steroids, many of whom have lied on front of Congress themselves, but none of them were chasing a HR record, or had the attitude of Bonds..

I'd add that most people are sick of these cheating ball players. Steriods is cheating. I mean if you don't mind your game full of a bunch of cheats that's your thing I guess. Plus the little kids will think it's cool to juice up.
What about the NFL, steriod abuse was/is much more prevelent.

Foot ball has a lot more problems than baseball, I agree. The only reason why I think the Dallas Cowboys are playing so good this year is because they stuff the Football with crack.

Bonds is going down with this. The gov't rarely brings perjury charges unless the fed. prosecutor is damned sure the charges will stick. Just heard the gov't says they have a positive urine test for steroids on Bonds from Balco. He's going down.

It's not a matter of whether or not he took steroids or not, it's if he lied about it..so a urine test would be irrelevant.

except bonds testified under oath that he never took them
i think the test would prove he committed perjury

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PEOPLE...GO READ THE FACTS OF THE ACTUAL TESTIMONY!!!

Bonds told a federal grand jury that he used a clear substance and a cream supplied by the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative, or BALCO, but he didn't think they were steroids.

So a test means jack sh1t. What they will have to prove is he willingly and knowingly took or purchased steroids with the intent to use.

But the urine sample plus the personal trainer testifying that bonds wore a "Roids 4 life" shirt during their training sessions might.

Did you even read what he is charged with? He is not charged with steriods but with perjury and obstruction. If he had told the truth he would not have to worry at all and still play the I thought it was flaxseed oil BS to the public.

I think his point is the fact that there is a FEDERAL INVESTIGATION into the use of steroids in a sport!

Let's be honest here, who really cares? Does the federal government not have better things to do then try to track down a bunch of roid users in a sport?

The housing market is in shams. We have companies who were overstating housing cost and leaving people upside down on their mortgages. It looks like we might be heading into a recession next year. But no, let's charge Barry Bonds with steroids!

Next: Let's investigate the use of performance enhancing surgery to the movie stars. OMG SOMEONE TOOK BOTOX!!!!

yes precisely. I understand the perjury charge but why was he put in a position to commit perjury regarding steroids. Wasteful and ridiculous.

Does anyone remember the fact that Rafael Palmeiro stated "I have never used steroids. Period." to the Grand Jury?

Oh wait, he's out of the sport and not a "big fish" anymore. The Feds are just trying to go after the biggest star to make themselves and their case look good. They want exposure. Nothing more.

No because it never happened.

On March 17, 2005, Palmeiro appeared at a Congressional hearing about steroids in baseball and, while under oath, denied ever using steroids, pointing his finger and stating, "Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids, period. I don't know how to say it anymore clearly than that. Never."

Minor difference there Johnny Cochran..nice theory though.

All of this is the result of an investigation into BALCO. If Bonds had gotten his steroids elsewhere he might have gotten away with it.

Really? You may want to have a talk with the House then.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/04...nds.steroid/index.html

A House committee considered perjury charges against Baltimore Oriole Rafael Palmeiro when he failed a drug test for steroids following congressional testimony in March 2005 that he had never used them. The committee decided in November not to pursue the charges, citing "confusing and contradictory" information, according to The Washington Post.

It's an excellent theory, SPIDER.

Are you unable to read bold? I'll try italics.

It wasn't a grand jury, it was in front of Congress.

Like I said, minor difference. It has less to do with frying the big fish than a lot to do with lack of evidence..

ESPN, like every other situation, brings on talking heads to bring up the racist aspect over and over and over and over and over and over again. I knew there was a reason I turn it off after PTI, just didn't change the channel today for some reason I don't know. Giambi's testimony was leaked just like Bonds. Only difference, Giambi told the truth, Bonds did not. That's not racism. That's just Bonds believing he was above the law.

Outside of ESPN, it's been a great day for baseball fans. If anything comes out of the perjury trial, at a *minimum* all the evidence, testimonies, drug tests, etc. will all be documented in public records for everyone to see. Joe Morgan will be the last man standing crying "it's not been proven he's took steroids." Everyone else with at least half a brain should come around to the truth.
