Well suck....

I was working on this guy's Asus A7N8X motherboard and had tried four sticks of PC3200 RAM in it and couldn't get the PC to run stable. I then stuck my PC2700 in it and sent it on it's way because I didn't want to screw with it any more. I went out to the warehouse to grab another stick and we were out.

So far I've got Q3A benchmarks for the 2400+, 2500+ and the 2500+ overclocked, but no 2600+ and no Thoroughbred vs. Barton at same speed benchmarks. Sorry guys. Monday's another day, though.

Exactly. It is running at almost 200 mhz less than the 2400+. Thats one. Two, you can believe that the bios is not perfected for the 512k cache either. And three if his machine was running messed up how can anyone trust any of the benchmarks?

Thanks classy, but my machine was not "running messed up" until AFTER I switched the RAM out, which is before I could do my Quake3Arena benchmarks which is why there are no Quake3Arena benchmarks in the article. My machine was working just fine up until the point where the RAM was switched out, which was well after the SiSoft, PCMark and Comanche benchmarks were run. I don't question the stability of a PC that can run Passmark Burn-In, 3DMark2001SE and play a DVD all at the same time (this is what I do to burn in components).

I didn't mean to be rude earlier - I was just disappointed that the review didn't have the Barton clocked at the exact same speed/FSB/etc as a Tbred. I am just looking for a review/preview where both chips are clocked at the exact same settings, so we can obtain some more concrete results about the performance difference between the two chips.

Ideally, clocking a Tbred-B and a Barton both to, say, 1.73Ghz/133FSB/166Memory and benchmarking, and then again at ~2 GHz/166FSB/166 (or 200) memory would be really helpful for isolating the L2 cache as the only performance altering factor between the steppings.
