Barton 2500+ won't overclock beyond 200mhz FSB

I know I shouldn't be complaining...I have a new Barton 2500+ that overclocks to 3200+ speeds (2200) at 1.7v 100% stable.

I was hoping to push the chip further, however it's multiplier-locked, and even a moderate FSB boost to 205mhz results in instability, even at 1.7v. My ram is Hynix PC3200, and the mobo is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe R2.0.

Is there a possibility that this chip is somehow FSB locked as well? It doesn't make sense that I can't overclock even slightly over 200mhz FSB. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Strange...maybe there is some kind of FSB locking going on then.

I remember reading somewhere about an L12 bridge modification that could alleviate this. Does anyone here have any input with regards to this?

it could be, in my case. I have somewhat aggresive timings. It's Corsair 3200 XMS. i haven't tried relaxing the timings.

maybe ill try later.

I relaxed my timings and increased the voltage and it's still unstable. Remember, this is at 205mhz...only 5mhz beyond spec. I think it must be a motherboard/cpu issue.

I needed the L12 mod to get above 200.

I closed the 1st bridge.
All the others were already closed.
(wire trick works also I hear)

Mines an AQFZA 0340. It's unlocked and running at 10.5x210. And that's with pc2700. Still heaven't seen that kingston yet. Tracker says it's out for delivery though. BTW It took 1.8v to get it there and full load temps 49C with air cooling!
Internal diode temps read 66C at full load. Prime95 for 2.5 hrs while cruising the Net.
Edit: I also had to bump ram .1 volt. Before I did that it would boot into windows and then reboot when I opened an application. Good Luck!

I have the 2500 as well...what program can I use to find out how fast (in GHz) it is running?

My 2500 is an AQXEA 0334, and it's running stabily at 2320MHz (11x210) at 1.725V. It does NOT pass Prime at this speed, errors out within the 1st hour. My temps have been fine, it runs about 43C load and 38C idle most of the time (800A/Panaflo 80MM H1A). Memory is Twinmos/Winbond 3200 at 2-2-2-11.

This chip will run everything I throw at it, except for Prime95! (Memory has passed 12 hours of memtest with no errors).

I've read on other forums that none of the conventional means of unlocking the new Bartons will work.
I hadn't read that....what a bummer. High overclocks now mean speedy RAM and that means $$. Suddenly, the hot Bartons on the FS/FT forum just got a little more desireable.
