hello.. i got a barton athlon xp 2800 (2.08 Ghz) on Asus A7n8x deluxw
previously i used the fan i used for my t-bird 900. It was an aluminium based hsf.
the temperature in bios reached abt 64C, but Asus probe states that the cpu temp is only around 54C
now i used copper based cooler master aero 7+
the temp at bios is now only 32C, which strangely is below the motherboard temp (34C)
however asus probe states that the cpu temp is 47C

which one should i believe?
how come,
with the al based hsf the bios temp is 10C higher than asus probe but
with the cu based hsf the bios temp is 15C lower than the asus probe?

should i be happy or be worry?
what is the max allowable temp of barton?

btw, ambient temp is 28C, and the pc never experience any crash due to thermal problem.

Never seen where the CPU runs cooler than the MoBo so I would believe the Probe, although the BIOS is usually what Software proggies run off of. Either way even 64C is not damaging the CPU but are you running the latest BIOS?

yes, latest bios - 1005
and latest probe - 2.21.02
so 64C is a safe temp?

at the moment probe states that the temp is 46C, does it means that the actual temp is 56 or 46?

All temp readings from software are not truely accurate...You could see what MB Monitor Reads to add to the confusion but if your Room and Case is efficiently cooled and the CPU is not OC'd or Over V'd I would think 46C idle is right. I know the Abit NForcy's had to change their BIOS and Monitor Program because it was reading the Temps to hot.

I have the same processor and same cooler as you. Mine also reports strange temps in the monitor programs. I'm usually in the mid 40s C though in the bios. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Is your system stable? Try touching the heatsink on your cpu and see if it feels too hot to touch. Not a very scientific solution I know, but it might give you some peace of mind.
