I was just going through some old boxes from my childhood and found 2 of the same card

These, Mcgwire & Mattingly

I don't know anything about baseball cards. Are these worth anything? I can't seem to find any info about them online.

sorry, but there is a glut of cards from the late 80's and early 90's

almost every card from that era is worth less than $1....with a few exceptions

Hey Leroybrown how about shortening your name a little? It messes up my nice clean tables. I'm sure the mods would be happy to oblige

Yup...right around 86-87 Topps, Donruss, and Fleer went apesh!t with baseball card production. That influx was still going strong by the time I quit collecting(Baseball strike). Of course, by that time they had introduced the Super-rare, mega,uber-ultra embossed glitter hologram 1 in a million cards which turned the entire hobby into a damn lottery. :brokenheart:

Naw, there's more than a few exceptions. A lot of the rare Upper Deck, or rookie cards can be worth quite a bit. My brother has a few cards with game jersey's in them, along with some other really rare cards that are worth a couple hundred apiece.

I think he is refering to regular series cards(Topps,Fleer etc) before they started adding foo-foo cards into the mix(cards with pieces of jerseys on them would count as foo-foo ). Up until around 93-94 badeball cards were just baseball cards. You opened a pack and hoped to get a good rookie or star player. Once the companies started branching out(Topps Stadium Club, Fleer Ultra blah blah blah) is when they started the lottery system with cards. Star players and rookies didn't seem to mean much unless they were one of the special cards.

The one exception I can think of with Upper Deck was Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card in '89. I think there was a Frank Thomas "regular" card that was worth a good bit too, but the set(can't remember company name) it came from was short-print. He hit the nail on the head, pretty much any cards from 88-92 were total crap as far as money is concerned.

yeah, I mean outside of 89' UD Griffey, '90 Leaf Sosa and Thomas, what other regular issue card from that time is worth more than $20? Of course you also have '89 Score Football with all those cool rookies. But what else?

The lottery system nowadays, with one special chase card, totally devalues all the regular issue cards.

Leaf! Yeah thats the one I was thinking.

Football cards didn't go quite as overboard as baseball cards did. If I'm not mistaken, Topps was the only ones who even made football cards untill '88.(ish) Score had some sweet rookies in that set(Aikman and Sanders I believe), but because they were a short print is what made them worth so much. Topps Sanders and Aikman aren't worth near as much I think. Basketball cards followed the same trend in the early 90's. I remember having TONS of the 90-91 NBA Hoops cards because stores sold them off dirt cheap due to overproduction($8 for a 36count box )

I got into baseball cards because I loved sports(when I was 10 it was all about getting Dale Murphy cards!). 7-8 years later I found myself to care less about the players and the game and more about the dollar value. Once I realized I was being as money-grubbing as the baseball players that striked that year, I quit. My wallet thanked me until 2 years later when I discovered Magic:The Gathering.....

I have a whole2 foot long stack of baseball cards from the late 80s. I doubt there's anything in them at all that's worth much. They were all gotten from the standard packs with the nasty bubble gum in them. If anyone wants them, I'll sell ya the whole bunch. heh.

Maybe I shoudl just stick them on eBay as a Grab Bag thing. Never know what's inside...

I have Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens rookie cards. Wonder what those are worth. Also have a few Larry Bird basketball cards, I'm holding onto those even if they were worth millions, those to me are priceless.

I own an original Baseball Pin with a black and white picture Ted Williams from the 40's. I wonder how much that is worth?
