(Dunno personally, I've never actually used an NC with a ROM).Yes I'm running NC stock because it did text resizing, reformatting etc better than anything else I tried (which included Aldiko). It's also dog slow and makes the entire Android experience awful, so I went back to stock. I'm sure the tablet is better, but the original Nook Color made for a terrible tablet. I don't know how anybody used it as one for long.

The NT has to be much better because mine works very well just rooted. (Even better with CM7 and even CM9 but I haven't bothered with mine since it does all I need it for currently- reading, a few games, movies, etc.)
The browser works fine for checking your mail, I've used it on trips to check Gmail and other stuff when I didn't want to drag along a laptop. It isn't the most pleasant device to browse the web on, e-Ink refresh rate is slow so it will be a lot more cumbersome than a browsing on an LCD based device, but it works for web browsing in a pinch. If she wants a device primarily for reading and just wants the ability to occasionally browse the web on it, an e-reader would work great.It will be used mostly for reading. After doing a little research it seems the kindle has an experimental browser that may work with gmail. Has anyone here tried it? Does the nook simple touch have something similar?
kindle 3G with keyboard has an experimental browser that will suffice for email, lite web surfing, etc.
connection is also free since its over 3G
I thought I read somewhere they turned off web browsing while using the free 3G.
Nope, mine can browse perfectly well under 3G (im in canada)
maybe if you accepted an update it stopped the 3g
