Ok here's the deal. About 5 months ago I partitioned my 60 gig drive into 5 pieces. However I've made the C:/ partition a bit too small, and I keep getting low disk space messages in winXP. I'd like to give myself an extra gig of breathing space as it were.

Is it possible to do this without formatting ALL my other partitions? Or am I screwed? It's just I've got about 15gigs of MP3s and I don't fancy the idea of backing them all up onto CD

Thanks for any insight! SP

I know partition magic can edit your primary Logical drive with extra space from your extended dos partition as I just did it yesterday. Fdisk will be worthless to you I'm afraid, but it CAN be done.
Good luck!

How big is your c:\ partition? Mine is only 500mb and I have plenty of room still.

You might just want to change your XP configuration.. change pagefile to different partition if its located on c:\ and disable hibernation while your at it.. that will free up alot of space depending on how much memory you have.

Also dont install anything to you c:\ partition.. all apps, games etc should go to another partition.

hmm..you might not get further without any 3rd party programs..

of course partitionmagic, as mentioned by the others, is excellent for this job !

I am also thinking about Norton ghost....(not sure, but might work !)...you could backup the whole partition, then re-create/format a bigger partition and play back that backup.

You could even do that from DOS (you need certain switches for the copy command so it copies also hidden and system files)....meaning backing up/copying all your system files on a save place...than re-create a new partition/format...and copy all that files back.

Anyway....personally i would NOT bother with such operations (copying around)....i would ONLY use Partitionmagic for any partition related stuff i do.

Thanks for the replies guys. Hmmn, my C:/ is 2 or 3 gigs I think. How should I go about making the changes you suggest there? Might need a step by step guide if that's ok as I'm a bit of a xp newbie!

Thanks

Your XP is probably installed to the C:\ partition also.. mine isn't. Mine is on E:\ partition on my computer... which explains why I still have plently of space on my C:\ partition.

To free up possible space on your C:\ partition... uninstall major programs and reinstall them to another partition.

Also go into control panel.. on left side of control panel click on Switch to Classic View if its there. Then find power options and open it up.. click on the hibernation tab.. unselect Enable hibernation (something like that). That will free up alot of mb there.

Then also in the control panel open up system, then click on Advance tab, under the performance section click on Settings, then click on Advance tab, then click on Change at bottom. Then change the page file to another partition other than C:\

Depending on how much memory you have (looks like 512mb) moving the hibernation and pagefile could free up 1gb of space or more on C:\.
