I will look for something bigger then. maybe Antec or Corsair 850w and call it a day

You really needed to jump on the PCP&C 750w Quad Silencer for $69 AR from a month back. The deal was even still alive when I checked last week. $99 with a $30 MIR ... you cannot top that PSU for that price.

I thought about that, but I heard that the fans ramp up too quickly and is pretty noisy

just ordered 2, my total was $38 shipped, this will be plenty of power for most any average machine, as long as you aren;t going SLI or super clocking a Quad core rig.

this psu will do SLI/crossfire, but I wouldnt risk it with anything over a 3750/4850 or a 8800gt/9800gt (or lower)

Since you mentioned noise in your other post regarding the PCP&C Silencer 750W, then you may want to avoid the Antec Quattro because that is one noisy mofo. I had one and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. The Antec Signature 850 is supposed to be really quiet, but is also really expensive. The Corsair will probably be the most quiet. In regards to the PCP&C Silencer, they are reasonably quiet for using an 80mm fan, but the fan controller tends to ramp up fan speeds quickly as temp/draw goes up.

Right! That's why they have two PCIe plugs, as all the cards you mentioned are near top-of-the-line for single PCIe plugs.

zap: love the technical term here 'one noisy mofo'. :]

does anyone know if this enhance is powerful enough to handle the following: 4xDDR2//gtx 275//ip35e//2xHD//q9650@3.6//DVD burner? I currently run this rig with 8800gt//E7200@3.6 which is not a problem but just thinking if it can handle my eventual upgrade setup. If you have similar setup on this PSU please post.

Honestly, I have never noticed mine even ramp up in RPM and/or noise. Antec P180b case helps a good bit, but I have always had a relatively high airflow case, which means a lot of fans. No way I would ever call the PCP&C a 'loud" PSU ... not even close.

Thanks for the input. I ended up ordering one of these for a buddy and one for backup.

I also ended up getting the Antec CP-850 for $123 shipped. I know its a big psu but got an Excellent review from JonnyGuru; and for the price it cant be beat IMO. It is as good if not better than the signature series in the majority of tests @ half the cost roughly.

I would have bought the new Enermax EVOGalaxy 1250 If I didnt miss out on the $280 shipped. I might get one when prices drop a little more or a rebate and promo code comes along.
Thats how I got my Enermax Revo 1050...$206ish after rebate.

Anyways, Thanks for all your input; I should be squared away for a while.

well, just got around to installing the psu, and it's not working. can get it to boot up, but then it hangs shortly after windows loads.

must be due to the terrific packing job they did.

Poised to ship, but network components disappeared from my order. Had to check the order online, as Geeks failed to send a confirmation email (had ordered on Friday). Shipping charges were not adjusted back down. If given a chance I would have ordered substitute items. Not impressed so far with their service.

Yup, my super technical term. Other ones I use are "swell" and "rocks."

Really though, I installed the Quattro 850W in my main rig which was set up to be really quiet back then (Antec Solo case, suspended HDDs, passive Scythe Ninja heatsink, passive video card, undervolted case fans). It was quiet when I tested it and on initial boot-up. After a while, it always became audible even idling. When gaming, it got noisy. I replaced it at the time with an EarthWatts 500W which was super silent in comparison with the same rig.

It should because in theory it has 36A.

The Turbo Cool models are pretty noisy. The Silencer models start out really quiet, but do have a more agressive fan controller (compared to the competition). If you don't have a hot environment and aren't loading the PSU too much, then it stays quiet (but not silent).

Also, silence is in the ears of the beholder. I've had people comment how quiet a system was, while to me it was noisy.

i think it would probably be ok.

I mean a q9650 @ 3.6 probably still pulls less power than a pentium D 840.

And all the rest of the stuff you have is fairly standard.

Your biggest power draws are the cpu which I figure would max out in the 130 watt range full load, and the video card which probably maxes at 150 watts.

So there should be plenty...

zap: yeah I got a ew500 on another rig, it's quiet and I usually don't hear it over my WD black 1tb drive. that light click click click over shadows all other components. but if want loud, my other rig has a 92mm ac freezer pro, at full load even in a p182 case i can hear it loud and clear, i doubt your Quattro 850W gets to that level. i have to replace that noise maker with a 120mm model eventually, it's quite unbearable at night.

zap, hans007: thanks on the comments for my future rig. Looks like the enhance will power my next few upgrades. currently with the dual cores i got right now, the wattage at full gaming load is about 200w at the wall (measured with KillAWatt) assuming an 80% efficiency, that's like 165W actual from my system.

I received all 8 of mine that I ordered today, I almost ordered 10. Yes I have a problem, lol... and it was only $13 shipping for all of them, to bad I had to pay the new "rediculous" tax of like 9% here in Cali. I got a large box, which looks like they were shipped to them in. The box was very beat up, even though it didn't have to go that far. (geeks isn't that far from me). They removed 2 from the box and didn't put anything in the space where they removed them so they were able to move around a bit, might be why the boxes integrity was a bit weak. But they seem to be fine, no big dents or damage yet.

The connectors DO NOT SEPARATE! Neither the 24 pin nor the 8 pin. I am sure there is a similar model that does, but these do not.

But, I don't care, these power supplies were the right price, and that is what matters. I can always drive over to monoprice since it is about 10 min away and pick up some cheap cables if I need em.
So far the quality looks good, I don't have a box to put one in yet, but I'll test them soon.

did you say 8!? I think this is deal of the century but ... 8!? gosh I thought I was indulging by getting 2 of these while 2 other PSU is sitting at home unused. but man, you need to cut down on the your PSU obsession ...

I think the 24pin not too much problem if not separated. the 8 might be for some people but my ip35e doesn't have a problem, it takes 8 native.

Funny, I have an IP35E too and that is what I will test it with, it is one of my extra computers and I think I got in on that same $75 deal. RIP Abit.... I started with a BH6, which I still have... It is responsible for me learning how to overclock. That was back in the late 90's when I started coming here for deals. I currently run a Q6600 on a Asus P5Q Pro, but I miss my abit boards, even with their issues...

I bought 8 because I fix computers for a living, and it is the most common part to burn out. I am a tech for a school district, so teachers are always bothering me to fix their home pc's. If their purchase order system didn't take 3 months I'd have bought 40. Now I don't have to run to office depot/max/staples or worst buy looking for a PSU when I need one, atleast for a while.

well I have two ip35e running strong. both on c2d currently but will go quad eventually. they actually was based on a server design I believe that's why the 8pin instead of 4pin connectors. I will get my enhanced shipped tomorrow, I will test them out on one of my ip35e to see if it work. I think it should.

I never had any problem with that board except with abit gone, bios update is slower.
