yeah i dont understand people who complain about shipping so much.

basically the minimum to ship UPS / fedex is $7. you cant even ship a 1 pound box for less than $7 really.

and power supplies weigh much more than that.

Got my two over the weekend. Same horrible packing as everyone else (I didn't even get the bubble wrap, just a couple of Air Paks). One is a little scuffed up, but no big deal.

Checked them both, and I consider myself lucky that they both work fine, and that they both have the 4-pin ATX connector as well as the 8-pin.

you can expect a call from Kris (geeks.com customer service) tomorrow or day after, asking how geeks.com can fix the problem

Wow, got mine today......what a deal, very heavy and great quality power supply. Much better than i expected!

Holding this in my hand, this thing easily feels like a $60-$70 power supply.

That was me that posted the gripe about the shipping.
IIRC, online businesses...or any other business for that matter get a break from companies like UPS & FedEx.
Perhaps I couldn't understand why one buyer only had to pay <$10 shipped for 2. Perhaps i'm spoiled w/free shipping from Newegg. Perhaps them offering free shipping just a day or 2 later had something to do with it. Perhaps I figured i'd throw that in because of the crappy packaging.
And btw...I have shipped items before...I know what i'm charged, but like I said earlier, companies that ship alot get better deals.

But $12 dollars for shipping you 2 supplies? Do you expect businesses to give you everything at cost? I dont understand your reasoning. Prices for things including specials such as free shipping change all the time. This is especially so with pc hardware and newegg isnt innocent of this practice either. I would've loved to have gotten in on those $5.00 after rebate free shipping antec ea380's but I missed out.

Newegg is able to offer free shipping and low prices on a lot of things because of the volume that they move. Guess what happens to their shipping and prices when people stop buying hordes of hardware from them.

Geeks packaging job is disgusting for sure and they do deseve appropriate feedback for that but they didnt rip you off on shipping. Maybe you wouldve been happier if they tacked on another 5 dollars per psu to include better shipping material and labor to pack them better? These were rock bottom prices on decent supplies. I'm just happy they offered them at such prices because not many companies will do that.

Mine appeared to be packed fairly well, but I bought a qty of 10, which apparently shipped in the original OEM container. It had cardboard sections for each of the PSUs, although there wasn't any extra padding under the supplies. At least they weren't banging around against each other though.

I paid $36 shipping, which I thought was fair for a box that size and weight.

Geezus man...did I hit a nerve?
Geeks employee? Employee for a shipping company?
I mentioned nothing about giving me something at cost.
I tell you what...i'll go edit my post about the shipping being a tad expensive...will that help?
It's not going to affect the overall rating, however. I rated them "good" on the shipping section (if that's ok?), but their overall score didn't change.
I can give you a breakdown on how I scored them if you'd like to comment on that as well?

@ Larry...I don't know where you are, but i'm in the midwest. Your shipping price seemed ok considering. Do you live far from CA?

the "hey businesses get a discount on shipping" angle is ridiculous.

first off, boxes aren't free.

I mean, i am not a store or anything, but they still aren't going to get that big a discount (i do sell al ot of crap on ebay and honestly a 5 pound power supply without discounts is going to cost way more than $7).

I mean the guy that is complaining about shipping is going to be complaining that gas isnt free next. That said, newegg and amazon do have free shipping because its baked into all their other prices. I don't hear people complain about newegg not combining shipping on more than one item. if you buy 10 power supplies there, you pay for 10 x whatever shipping it is for 1.

actually, ppl do complain about newegg combined shipping policies.

but i agree, the shipping was VERY reasonable in this case.
this is hot deal of the year so far for me, and should be for most assuming you got one that wasn't DOA.

No.

i don't know what their current policy is but yes, newegg did not provide discount for shipping multiple items at one point (and i believe it also depended on the item).

they just added up item cost + shipping cost each. there was a whole thread bitching about it.

my mistake... i put 10 460 watt coolermaster power supplies in my cart at newegg, and it was only $51 shipping. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817171028

so how is the geeks not comparable? granted newegg used to stack the original shipping for 1 supply ($9) x 10, so this is slightly better. it might actaully cost $51 to ship 10 power supplies who knows but people complain all the time like shipping should be free.

I know the manager at a major retail store. He can ship something for half or more what it costs me.

Now you're being asinine.

I was going by what other people were being charged for the same thing. Some people paid less shipping for the same quantity. Some paid not much more for a much larger quantity. I thought the shipping was $4-5 too high personally, but since it was such a good deal on the PSU, I didn't balk. If I thought the shipping was too high I wouldn't have bought the things. Once I saw the way the packaging was, I thought i'd throw my 2 cents worth in about shipping costs too. All I said was I thought shipping was a tad high. Geez...gimme a break!
I'm tired of talking and arguing about this.
You complain about my complaining...LOL!

Finally plugged mine in. Just as someone here suggested, the 4 of the 8 pin fit right into 4 pin plug on the motherboard. It is very quiet. I love it! I purchased 2 when I didn't even need it. I think I should have bought 4! Of course the shipping sucked. The PSUs were in the box only with some air pillow separating the two. One of the PSUs have a dent at one of the corners. I haven't tested that one. I hope it works when I get around to testing it. Thanks for such a great deal!

Not to bump a dead deal, but I finally am getting around to using one of these psu's and I had a question.

I was installing one yesterday and I noticed inside the psu there was some pieces white "gunk inside, maybe half an inch in size. They were not attached to anything but I noticed one was slightly in the way of the fan blades, so I removed it. Should be concerned at all? I haven't turned on the PSU yet but I was just curious. Thanks.

Thanks! Seems like it probably is dried glue. Just had never seen that in a psu so I was slightly concerned. I'm glad I caught it because it would've affected the fan spinning anyway.

Heh, I was just thinking about this thread yesterday. I'm not having the best of luck with these. One had a bad fan controller so the fan ran full speed all the time. Three others seem to be hitting OCP on the PCIe connectors. Two were running GTX 260 and one a GTX 285 (all overclocked of course). Once something demanding happened (Furmark for GTX 260, nearly any game on GTX 285) system would reboot. Didn't happen with other PSUs though. I even tested it with a separate PSU hooked up to one of the two PCIe connectors on the GTX 285 and it ran fine, so it was definately the PSU. The GTX 285 system ran great on an Antec True Power Trio 430W (using an adapter for a second PCIe connector).

I guess I'll have to relegate these to powering lesser systems.
