Not saying it'll happen anytime soon, just saying it would be cool to see it happen. We still aren't seeing NBA players taking the international game seriously, even when its painfully evident that American players are no longer head and shoulders above of the pack.

MLB players don't seem to have a big problem with going to Japan (most of them anyways). I don't know why NBA players feel that way.

yeah true. the Japanese players and fans were so happy to see Barry Bonds go to Japan to play. Barry Bonds, who is considered by some fans and media to be very selfish going to Japan? and NBA top stars can't go to the Olympics? so sad.

Honestly, the big issue is the international game is A LOT different than the NBA game. The US is the superior team every game but even watching these international games, the officiating is terrible and the way the game is played is a lot different

Duncan is a perfect example. Simple thing like arm bars in the post are giving him cheap fouls and he can't play at all cuz of foul trouble.

Another big different is charges. The international teams try to take them all the time like the college game in the US. The NBA game prevents charges underneath with the circle so our guys are trying to block every shot.

Blame the officials, NBA style yo!

Every team complained that the refs suck. These refs are not the refs that usually play in european basketnall they are 3rd rate refs. Because FIBA had some conflict with the regular ones.

It's a shame the Olympic Games could not get better refs and had to put the 3rd stringers in. These refs did not give Duncan time to play.

This USA team should have won anyways. Yes they are not 1 string all stars but who cares they are still some of the best players in the world. They are still great.

They just could not shoot the 3 today or any outside shots.

The Argentian players also got lucky. They almost lost to Greece the other day.

The problem is with all the other NBA players that chose not come to Olympics.
Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady. Shaq and others.

I think American companies should not be doing any endorsements with them anymore. They did not want to bother playing for USA cause they had better things to do.

Do not root or buy their stuff anymore for NBA players that did not come to the games.

Lance Armstrong chose not to go to the games, I don't hold that against him. I don't think they should feel obligated to play, it's a personal choice.

I'm taking about NBA players only.

Lance had a tough race in the Tour De France and it's understandable he did not come.

I think the NBA players knew they were going to get spanked by the int'l teams. Some said they were scared about security but you know that's a cop-out reason.

All I know is I wouldn't want to be known as the guy who played for his Olympic USA basketball team that did not win the gold medal after USA started sending pro's to the Olympics.

Thanks for the spoiler in the thread title, you going to update the final score there too?... Guess I watch something else tonight.

The game is on NBC right now...
Yeah... where else was I going to record it from? Do you know how many people are at work right now, taping/DVRing it? It would have been simple to keep the spoiler out of the thread summary, I wouldn't have click on the thread if it just said what's in the title.

They should seriously just send the team who wins the NBA championship for that year to the Olympics

I was rooting for the US team, but I must admit, I feel like it's a win-win situation. Only good things will come out of the loss... for one, the US might take international play more seriously now. Another good thing is that I think a lot more NBA teams will consider adding some international players to their roster. Are ANY of the lithuanians pros?

All this crap about not having the best players is bunk. They had very high quality players... but just not a good balance of them. There's no one I would rather have than duncan on the team, but duncan and a few other lesser PF/Cs don't constitute a great team. AI and marbury are not shooters. I don't have any reason to believe vince carter, garnett, or mcgrady would have helped significantly. Especially not carter... more outside shooting with good defense. Like bruce bown maybe; those types of guys.

I?m glad the NBA players lost, they are all bunch of millionaires that don?t really care much about what happens.

They should stop sending NBA stars and send college players or build a team at least a year before the Olympics and practice instead of putting a team together weeks before.

I'm kinda glad the usa team lost as well. I think that'll send a big message to all NBA players that they aren't the best in the world and perhaps quiet their huge egos.

And maybe now they'll stop calling the winner of the NBA finals the World Champions...I always hated that

spoiler? I only listed the score at 3 minutes into 3rd quarter. That's hardly a spoiler. If you didn't read into this thread, you wouldn't know the final results, would you?

yeah. whats up with that guy?

He is born in the US but had dual citizenship of Puerto Rico and US.

he choose to run for the PR.

ok. why doesn't he move there if he likes it so much?

-----------
I don't get the argument they are all just millionares and it's good they lost.

So what. What does that mean only poor should win?

The players that sacrificed their summer to play here should be applauded. It's the other lamos that should be booed.

He can live in one country and play in another, just like that Play Station 2 commercial say "live in your world, play in ours".

USA lost to Argentina 89-81. Absolutely ridiculous that such all-stars could lose.
