Ashley Smith, a transgender woman and LGBT activist, took a dig at Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s support for SB6, Texas’ “bathroom bill,” with a photo that has gone viral.

Smith posted the photo of herself and Abbott on Facebook and Instagram captioned, “How will the Potty Police know I’m transgender if the Governor doesn’t?” Across the top of the photo, Smith typed “#BATHROOMBUDDY.”

SB6 would force Texans to use public restrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender assigned at birth and not their gender identity. The photo takes a jab at Abbott by pointing out that Smith would be forced to use the same bathroom as Abbott, despite not having the same gender identity.

Smith told the San Antonio Express-Newsthat the photo was the most effective way for her to get her message across.

“I did not think [shouting] would work, or that I would be heard and was more interested in the getting the photograph and not getting thrown out,” Smith told the San Antonio Express-News.

How will the Potty Police know I'm transgender if the Governor doesn't?

Why TF has this become such a pressing issue lately for republicans? They whine about Dems and identity politics, meanwhile they are push their own form of identity politics.

Gotta have an enemy, man.... They can't stand up for their policies, can't show anything worthwile - so attack, attack, attack anything, anyone that puts off their chump crowd from noticing how much more there'll going to get fucked by those they put into power...

This was and is not an issue pushed by republicans. This whole "people should use whatever bathroom or locker room or changing room they want!" issue comes from the left, pushing it down the throat of everyone around the country with federal mandates. What you're seeing now is certain states reacting to that push from the left. Accusing the republicans of pushing identity politics when they are simply reacting to mandates forcing them to adopt the policies of the left is hypocritical.

Hardly. I have a bunch of evangelical relatives and this issue is huge with them. The pastor at my mom's church sent her and everyone else a huge spiel about how this is one of the most important issues "we" face today. Maybe not quite at the level of abortion and making sure end times comes about, but up there.

Huh? Really? I'm pretty sure the position of the left on most of these sexual issues is "Mind your own business"

So up until the last couple of years people were going about their business, uses the bathroom and it was not a topic of conversation. The GOP suddenly starts putting in policies to address issues that weren't issues at all and somehow it's the left pushing it?

You mean "mind your own business" by creating federal mandates that tell every local community what policy they need to follow, who needs to be allowed in which locker room or changing room? How is that "minding your own business"? When some dude wants to go into a changing room with my 12 year old daughter, I consider objecting to that "minding my own business".

Uh, no. The "gop suddenly starts putting policies in place" is a load of crap. The GOP started putting laws in place to address the problem of people forcing their views onto the rest of the community, demanding that they be allowed to go into changing rooms, bathrooms or other facilities based on how they perceive themselves rather than on reality.

What federal mandate?? I can tell you that in North Carolina, the state GOP started this mess when they signed a bill that overrode a local CITY ORDNANCE, an ordnance that was endorsed by that city's chamber of commerce mind you. Federal mandate not found...

That's like saying Israel is only ever defending themselves from those evil palestinians that are always attacking them, unprovoked, for no discernible reason whatsoever! It is only their fault that we most bomb and murder them into extinction!

Nothing was "pushed by the left." The right was triggered by sensible, typical, civil rights legislation and used this to keep their base salivating over the prospect of others taking away their god-given freedoms, as yet another distracting, single-issue topic in order to force their more insidious policies that only serve to rob and impoverish the very people who's votes they depend on.

make no mistake: being so easily triggered by "bathroom bills," and the support of such intentionally distracting, loudly discriminatory legislation is an easy opening of one's mind to the convenient embrace of a very real, and very present fascism that is growing in this country. Whenever you are so easily frightened by "the others" making life difficult for you, you are 2 steps from ordering the black uniform.

We call that republican nominee braggadocio. Funny how all the Dump voters didn't seem to mind those antics in the Miss America changing rooms.

Seriously, if the 10th Amendment moment you're having is making you think it's the Dems who need to mind their own business, you have a lot of news to catch up on.

Last I checked, you social authoritarians drinking the Dump Koolaid have absolutely ZERO room to talk about others being detached from reality. Thank you for illustrating it, along with that victim mentality you guys delight in.

So are there any figures for transgendered people using the bathrooms/changing rooms of the gender they identify with getting up to no good with children using those facilities?

I just what to get a handle on the immensity of the danger befalling our children!

I actually went looking for those figures once. I couldn't find any, though I can't say I searched exhaustively.

What I was quickly able to find was figures on how many Catholic priests have been excommunicated in the past few years by the Vatican for sexually abusing children. It's a large number, something like 840, and that's by the Vatican--who admits little and defends these scumbags right down the line. So I expect the number is actually far higher.

So the bathroom bill really should have been about Catholic Priests, if we are going by the chances for your kids getting molested....

How it works in non shitty communities.
Person goes to bathroom. No one inspects junk. No one gives a crap about how they look. Deuce is dropped, leak taken followed by washing of hands and exit stage left. All that matters is if there is a line to use the bathroom.

How it starts in shitty communities where people have made noise.
Male who identifies as a woman goes into a men's bathroom and is kicked out by "the community" because Male acts and looks like a woman.
Goes to ladies bathroom and is kicked out by "the community" because they are a male in the ladies room.
Person asks "where can I use a public bathroom?"
Community says "until you shop at a store we approve and buy clothes we approve of just hold it in."

If a female uses the men's bathroom. What sort of jackass is going to give a crap? Is this really a thing in other parts of the country to investigate everyone who is using the can?
If guy who acts and dresses like a woman goes into the ladies bathroom, chance are the only thing they are checking out is where the other ladies shop for clothes.

I understand bathrooms are a big deal in other parts of the country.
Lots of pain and suffering when they had to get rid of the whites only signs and then again when "crippled people" laws went into a effect.
