I personally would have put these kids in jail, or whatever the legal punishment would be. But sometimes a kid needs a smack. Not necessarily saying make them bleed, but a face-smack is not unwarranted.
Daddy whupped my butt for sneaking a cigarette at the age of 5. Never touched one again. There's a qualitative difference though. He got my attention in no uncertain terms but it happened maybe twice. When it happened it wasn't out of anger and it was measured. This woman drew blood. To me that a whole nuther thing.
