Currently Kroger grocery stores has Eveready AA and AAA 10 pks for $2.99 special. SOME (not all) has a coupon of $1 off stick on the front. If you use the coupon, it amounts to $1.99 for 10. This is the far the best deal for popular name brand battery I know.
Looks like Duracell and Eveready are having a price war. Currently a similar deal with Duracell AA 10 pks for 2.99 at Kroger too. These packs includes 2 premium batteries of the same size. Don't know if these premium are better and worth the extra. These are supposingly perform better in colder weather. Eveready is also having sales for 4D, 4C and 2-9V for $2.99 with a $1 instant coupon too at Kroger. It amounts to $1 for each Alkaline 9V.
I use alkaline batteries for the kid toys instead of rechargeables so I don't have to make sure that they do not throw these away when batteries run out. Problem with rechargeable is that it drains 1% (correct figure?) even not in use. That is why I don't use rechargeables for TV remote, clocks or the cordless mouse. Use it for flash light is OK as long as you understand that if you don't use the flash light for a few weeks, you may have to recharge it.
