I saw a free screening today....

Toss Cloverfield, ID4, and Blackhawk Down into a blender and you get Battle:LA.

It was OK, but I would not pay to see it.

The problem with alien invasion movies is that if the bad guys have the tech to get here, they can wipe us out without facing us in ground or air combat.

It's never a good sign when a movies marketing budget is just as large as it's production budget.

Too easy to stay away from sci-fi movies that cater to people looking for ID4 or Transformers, especially when they are obvious summer-rejects and get released in March. Of course the same people who ran out to see that turd (Skyline?) released not too long ago, and complained about how bad it sucked, will run out to see this steaming pile too. At least you lot are keeping people working.

I was thinking about seeing this.

I kind of want to go find a theater playing Love instead though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_(2011_film)

This looks like a good movie!

WTF, Tangled cost 260 million to make?? It looked like a neat animated movie but how did they except to turn a profit with those costs?

Beside the typical theathers, rentals, ppv, dvd/br, netflix, ect. in the US, movies producers also make money from oversea markets. I read somewhere that Prince of Persia did not do too well in the US but was making plenty of cash from oversea markets.

I'll watch it eventually just to see LA get owned.

If you meant LA as Louisiana, then yes. Most of the movie was shot in Baton Rouge and Shreveport areas. The battle scene at the interstate highway was filmed on I-49.

That's always been my problem with invasion movies. To make them more believable, they need to have another alien side that opposes the invasion and fights at our side to even the odds. Now THAT would make an awesome movie.

Why are people posting in this thread while The Green Hornet was actually a pretty good movie?

Stargate SG1 did a lot of that, where they got alien tech and people to oppose the Goa'uld and then later the Ori.

I would tend to agree. If they have the technology required to get here, there's not going to be a fight. Likely a massive display of force, and a surrender, or just a total annihilation.

Had no idea what it was about and saw a few trailers just now.

Cloverfield
Independence Day
Transformers

Will still see it but not in theaters. Love these types of movies.

I enjoyed it. The alien race seemed to have a closer tech level to us than most movies. They were killable by bullets, bombs, and artillery. Which made for a better movie. I would look at these aliens as being about 100-150 years ahead of us on a technological scale. Of course the ending was cheesy. Always an achilles heel when aliens invade. Which makes the movie kind of comical. They travel across the universe and forget having a single point of command for their air support isnt a good thing

Sorry to nitpik, but an interstellar species would not be 100-150 years ahead of us, more like 1000-1500 years minimum ahead of us perhaps. In reality, 100000 years would be a blink of the eye on universe time scale. We would have zero chance if some species showed up to pwn earth.

Anyone else notice Science Channel has started showing Firefly from the beginning? Perhaps there is hope for a return to some good sci-fi, would love to see a new channel and not this sharktopuss crap. There movies are either copymocks such as Battle for LA, or based on some genetic mishap.

SyFy != Sci Fi

You make a million assumptions when you say an ET invader must be so advanced they could kill us easily. America can do that to any country and they aren't a thousand years more advanced. There are so many variables completely ignored.

thats not much....
tron legacy 170mil
tangled 260m
inception 160m

You'd think that based on those numbers except that they are record-breaking numbers and FAR from the normal "expensive movie." One of those is actually the most expensive movie ever made.
