Runs well on my fury. Getting fps similar to that 480 video, maybe a little better. But at 1440 ultra. Will check if resolution scale is correct.

Also shows dx12 in the info. and looks like it will use async compute - at least it identifies the GPU supports it. Wonder what the nvidia cards are showing for this.

The dx12 mode needs work

How is that? If AMD had conservative rasterization and ROVs games could start using them in a serious way on pc.

FYI CR / ROV are DX11 features as well, as shown by Nvidia releasing the extra shadow modes in Division / Rise of the Tomb Raider DX11 modes.

Neither of which are worth the massive performance hit though so even on a 980 Ti people weren't using them.

The performance increasing features like async compute support are missing from Maxwell which is the issue with lacking DX12 support.

assuming of course that it would run without massive performance impact on even nvidia hardware.

Conservative raster is a good idea since there's no performance hit when it's hardware accelerated but ROVs are not a good idea since Morgan McGuire who's a researcher at Nvidia implies that it's slower than a manual atomics-only K-buffer implementation on some platforms (Intel is the only one to advertise a big win with the feature so who other than Nvidia could he be talking about ?) ...

You mean (some people think) VXAO and HFTS aren't worth the performance hit.

Well for 25+% performance loss for almost no IQ gain, yes I'd say most people would call that not worth it.

Anyway back on topic

How long will the beta last?

I don't think they've announced the end date, probably a week or two at least, then probably closed for a while nearing release.

Think that is how they did BF4, been a while though

GG for missing my point. CR != VXAO.

Pretty crazy, huh?

What are you talking about?

I said "CR / ROV are DX11 not DX12 features"

You brought up VXAO / HFTS

I said performance isn't worth the IQ difference in those two

You say CR != VXAO?

Uhh what?

Because you seemed to be confusing the extra work being done by things like VXAO and HFTS with CR, when it's actually what makes those effects possible at a reasonable speed. Maybe I misunderstood.

Update, I just played my first match. I had dx12 enabled and it ran fine by my standards which is 30-40ish fps. Game looks very nice just a bit fast for my tastes.

Wow... even in its current beta state, DX12 is like the eternal fountain of youth for the good old 7970/280x cards...LOL...

I think thats the problem. If the effects that can be produced using CR are too taxing while the same look can be had for less performance hit, it makes CR pointless. Even if those taxing effects run better with CR than they would without. Just use the way that is faster and looks as good.

A game like battlefield would tank with things like that.

Side Note: oh lord what did EA do to Origin. Went from "eh functional" to "why on earth did someone choose this layout"

I had also pre-ordered it and was lucky enough to have signed up for the early beta. Looks like it will be a BIG seller.

The matchmaking appears to be working fairly well. I'm getting good pings and so far the battles haven't been completely one sided like they so often were in BF4. Could just be coincidental though as I've only played a handful of rounds.

It's not useless just because one or two effects are heavy. For one, it means we'll get effects like these sooner in games. And you can't just ignore other possible applications of it.

And screen space ao really doesn't look as good. Especially in indoor areas.

This game looks absolutely gorgeous. I pre-ordered it some time ago but haven't gotten beta access yet

It's very pretty. It looks and feels a lot like SW:BF. Which hopefully means it will be optimized and play beautifully even on lower end hardware. I didn't pre-order the game, just signed up for the insiders club or whatever.

somehow my colors got flipped in windows after closing the game. Guessing the color blindness option affected windows settings. Red became blue. Tried to take a screenshot but it only captured the normal colors. Fixed the problem by turning off and on the monitor. Weird.

"Close-to-the-metal APIs are great for consoles but they seem to suck for PCs.

Directx 12 may be problematic but Vulkan is amazing. OpenGL needed a shot in the arm as an API so damn badly.
