Nvidia hasn't done well in DX12 so far and have yet to release the elusive Async Compute drivers for Maxwell while selling them as supporting it. Considering async compute is one of the core engine features for increased performance and lower frame times that is a huge missing feature.

That isn't a feature that developers have to avoid though. Anyone can put it in their engine and if it's not supported or causes issues on certain hardware it can be effectively ignored by the driver.

I know it's still Beta, but my disappointment is that Dice has had low-level API experience on PC ever since their work with Mantle, and was the big one driving towards low-level APIs, and yet even Dice isn't showing DX12's superiority over DX11 right now.

Given Dice's history pushing forward, BF1 should have been the first game to ditch DX11 in favor of Vulkan.

Ok so after setting my resolution scale back down to 42% (AKA 100%) I'm getting much better performance. Right around 100 fps @ 1440p with Ultra preset

Did DICE mention weekday they ates trading in the Beta specifically? I doubt is the graphics engine at this point in time, which is why I'm surprised they opened up DX12.

If you want to know, it is 6:3 in features for AMD, if you want to know who wins this fight.

Again, you derail this thread, just like Sweeper other threads, with posts that are not related in any way to the meritum of thread. Unless you want to prove publicly that you are wrong. Then you are doing it great.

Now, lets get back to thread, and it appears we have first comparison benchmarks for this game.

Second set of benchmarks aren't doing DX12 any favors. Them minimums! Woof. I'd run it in DX11 for AMD just to have a smoother experience.

DICE being the forefathers of Mantle/DX12, they forgot to include the secret sauce.

You can check your rendering resolution by typing 'render.drawscreeninfo 1' into the console.

Reset/Default 42% == Native resolution. Tweaking it, and then putting it back to 42% won't set it to native as expected. You have to reset settings to get Native again. DX12 is an all around performance negative. Stick with DX11. Beta.

GCN 3/4 have four items they don't support. Pascal has five items it doesn't support. And technically we could go into teirs and such, but that looks to be a tie between AMD and nVidia.

Nope, just have to be signed up as a Dice insider for access to early betas.

DX12 isn't doing so great, at least in this beta build. Both vendors are performing worse with it but this looks like one of those rare instances where it's hurting AMD more than nVIida, particularly on the minimums. It would be nice to see it used in situations where someone has an under powered CPU. A Skylake i5 isn't exactly a weak CPU. Downloading now on a Sandy Brdige i3 and GTX 680 setup. If DX12 has any benefit at all in this Beta it should at least show up with that configuration.

No need to preorder to get in on the beta. Pre ordering gets you early access to the full release though. Just wait until it's available and google battlefield 1 open beta, i'm sure that will point you in the right direction.

How is that? If AMD had conservative rasterization and ROVs games could start using them in a serious way on pc.

assuming of course that it would run without massive performance impact on even nvidia hardware.

As far as I understand CR doesn't add a lot of extra overhead by itself. It's what you do with that extra information it provides that might be heavy. If anything, I think it can be considered a feature that can accelerate things that would otherwise be even more demanding.

Ok so DX12 is completely useless in it's current state.

i3 2130 + GTX 680 1080p, medium settings
DX11: 60-80 fps
DX12: 40-70 fps with random hitches below that

CPU pegged at 99% for both
