I'm feeling better. Seems like they kept some of the older battlefield silliness, like the guy throwing a grenade at a strafing biplane or switching to the gunner seat in a plane to shoot some dude down while your plane plummets without anyone flying it. This is a good thing!
The overall game speed seemed a bit fast and I didn't get a sense of huge battlefields for infantry but they were brief clips.

Agreed, though I think this is the standard for Battlefield now since Bad Company.

Is there going to be a no man's land/mortar spam type of border system, or is it just going to play like how it looks...CoD 1,2, and 4.

Really excited for about this game, however I'll hold off pre-ordering until I can play in the alpha or beta.

Not happy they removed the Engineer class as that's all I played. However the videos look very good and I'm pretty excited about it. Getting a new monitor just for it, early birthday gift to myself.

So this looks pretty cool. https://www.battlefield.com/news/article/battlefield-1-operations-mode?utm_campaign=bf1_hd_ww_ic_soco_twt_bf1-operations-6122016&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&cid=7923&ts=1465772407721&sf46877994=1&sf46881989=1
Battle Across Multiple Maps in Operations in Battlefield 1

You play, you win or lose, and then you move on to the next round. That all changes in Operations, a new game mode coming to Battlefield 1.

Typically, a round in a Battlefield game is completely contained to that one match. You play, you win or lose, and then you move on to the next round. That all changes in Operations, a new game mode coming to Battlefield 1. In it, the outcome of the current round carries over to the next map, giving you the opportunity to fight a sequence of inter-connected battles.

Operations offer epic journeys across several maps based upon real battles of World War I. We wanted to offer a large and epic experience with a focus on teamplay and frontline combat. Adding this meta-layer to the game mode, and stretching it across multiple interesting locations that both look and play very differently, adds a whole new layer of scale and variety to the battles in Battlefield 1. Your team can win on one map, proceed to the next map, and actually see the map you previously fought over on the horizon.

As an attacker you’ll hear the commanding officer’s whistle as the order to charge the enemy trench is given. You’ll run side-by-side with your teammates as you storm towards the enemy defensive positions on foot, in tanks, airplanes, boats, and on horseback. As a defender, you’ll dig down as you hear the alarm go off signaling an incoming attack. You’ll man the stationary machine-guns and cannons to aid you as you rain hell on the advancing enemy attackers.

The attackers must capture and hold all defensive positions in order to capture the sector that is being fought over. Once this is done, the defenders will fall back to the next sector and regroup. The pacing and variety between the different sectors vary widely, since each sector offers a different amount of objectives to capture and defend as well as varied layouts and choke points.

The attackers must take territory and push the frontline forward, while the defenders are trying to hold the line. Should the defenders fail to hold their ground on a map, the Operation doesn’t stop here: they will fall back and regroup on a different map, while the attackers will continue to push. Sectors may fall, but players reinforced by gigantic Behemoths can still turn the tide.

We wanted to create a Battlefield experience that was not just bite-sized, but actually spanned beyond an hour of playtime. Something epic and compelling for players who wanted a chance to immerse themselves in this first global war, and capture the stories of how different battles were deeply connected to one another. This kind of frontline combat really captures the essence of WWI clashes, intimate and deeply rooted in breaking through or holding ground.

They didn't hav defibs in WWI. I wonder if they will have something like an adrenaline shot or cpr. Or will you just die, run 2 miles, then die again and run 2 miles, rinse and repeat?

Revive is in. Apparently with a big needle.

Wtf they removed engineer? That's pretty much all I played too or unless they rolled it into something else. I love taking out vehicles and tanks. They must have rolled it into another class or renamed it.

Looks like it's split between the medic and the assault class now.

Classes Q&A

War on an epic scale requires some pretty epic Classes, and the ones in Battlefield™ 1 are a bit different from what you've seen in the past. We asked popular YouTuber (and Battlefield GameChanger) Westie to send over questions to ask Julian Schimek, Weapon Designer on Battlefield 1.

Westie: What are the roles of each Class in Battlefield 1?

Julian Schimek: Every Class can hold their own in battle, but they each have their own specialty. Assaults are experts at blowing up vehicles, Support can resupply teammates, Medics can heal teammates (and vehicles), and Scouts focus on reconnaissance.

Westie: What’s the biggest change in the classes from previous Battlefield games?

Julian Schimek: Every Class is now more efficient in combating enemy infantry. They still have different things that make them unique, but we wanted to make players feel like they were able to go toe-to-toe with anyone else they see running around on foot.

Westie: What makes the Classes visually different?

Julian Schimek: We worked hard to give each class their own distinct style in Battlefield 1, while making sure to stay true to the setting and the era. They all have their own little visual quirks that set them apart. Actually, if you look closely in the reveal trailer you can see some hints of this - the Medics, for instance, have crutches on their back!

Westie: What abilities does the Medic have in Battlefield 1?

Julian Schimek: Field medics were really important in that era, and it made sense to give them their own class. From a gameplay perspective, we wanted to upgrade their abilities. We think players are going to really enjoy the new versions of the classes.

Westie: Where did the Engineer class from previous Battlefield games go?

Julian Schimek: Yep – good eye – classic Engineers are no more in Battlefield 1. But worry not, their abilities live on! Besides being able to heal and revive players, the Medic can also repair vehicles, and the Assault class is more focused on taking down vehicles. Assault has both Gadgets and Anti-Tank weapons, making them the go-to for blowing up enemy armor.

Westie: Will the Scout class be purely focused on reconnaissance, or will it on play a direct role in the battle?

Julian Schimek: It's actually a mix of both. Scouts are experts at reconnaissance, and their ability to take down enemies from afar with sniper rifles actually ties well into those abilities. What better time to survey the field and give vital information to teammates than when you're in the distance sniping enemies?

Thanks for the details. I saw the revive timer on a dead soldier in on of the videos but didn't know how they revived.

Edit: Did they mention anything about single player modes with bots (not a campaign)?

Grooveriding, Thanks so much for the links. I went ahead and pre-ordered. I have a feeling this is going to be a BIG launch.

By the time this releases, I'll be using a GTX 1080 in rig1 and the 980TI SC in rig 2

Tempted to pre-order also, but i couldn't find the premium/season pass or whatever it's called. Anyone know if this will exist for BF1?

IT does, but I think it's only in the Origin store right now. It's 79.99 vs 59.99

Yeah I saw that but I don't think that's it.

In BF4, you could buy Premium and it came with some battlepacks and all the DLCs when they become available. It was separate from the base game.

Yeah it looks great.

That is the head of Frostbite development for DICE. I think this title is probably going to be nvidia sponsored, unlike the past few that were with AMD. If you read that twitter thread it sounds like they are going full on with DX12, as well as explicit DX12 multi gpu support. This may wind up being how we see BF1 play out on PC.

I'm waiting on the 1080 Classified to turn up before I get one. Generally I've gone reference with a block for the small die nvidia cards, but I don't like the reference=founders thing, so found some patience to hold off

Can't wait to try the beta for this game. I want to see how it performs. Battlefield is the only game that will get me to go multi gpu again if it needs more performance for my resolution/refresh rate than a single GPU can handle.

Did they go back to 4 man squads? I preferred the 6 man squads. It might been a question of spawning on too many people. I like how 2146 did it with just the squad leader or his beacon.

Maybe if we're lucky, there won't be a Premium because it will all be free DLC...

I guess I'm not understanding this 'premium/season pass' thing.

-I'm guessing 'Premium' includes all the DLC?
-Season pass for what - The neighborhood swimming pool?
-How long is this 'season'?
-What happens at the end of the 'season'?

Based on Battlefront, premium offered some extra DLC items or early-game power-ups. People should avoid jumping the gun that it will include all expansions. That will be what the season pass is about. Expect the total game content to easily surpass $100.

Interesting that they re-grouped the repair/heal into one class, and assault/anti-tank into another. I hate to say it, but I think most people are going to run assault/anti-tank, and we won't have many repairs or revives to go around.

Also, really interesting that the pilot and tanker are their own class. I think that's not only more realistic, but lessens the overpowered nature of those vehicles, especially air vehicles. Now pilots will have to eject under fire with nothing more than a pistol, I'm guessing, which of course is all any pilot ever carries anyway. It will be interesting to see what tankers get in terms of small arms.

Tank drivers are able to repair their own vehicle. You need to press a button to start the process. During the repair phase you cannot move the vehicle, fire weapons or get hit. If any of those things happen the timer to repair lengthens. From what I saw the driver can repair for 20 each time.

I like this.

In the past there was no season pass for Battlefield. You would buy Premium and that would give you all the LDC and some bonuses like priority in queue. For the game, I'll probably pre-order through Amazon for the 20% discount and then hold off on Premium until I see if my friends keep playing or not.

The game looks good and looks to be a traditional BF game. I am wondering if there will be some trench emphasis somewhere in the game though. This is WWI after all. People didn't run around all crazy in the open in different directions (unless they charged from a trench only to get mowed down). I do like the bayonet charge how the guy yells. Pretty cool. I can imagine melee only servers with teams charging each other in a semi organized fashion.
