The game looks good and looks to be a traditional BF game. I am wondering if there will be some trench emphasis somewhere in the game though. This is WWI after all. People didn't run around all crazy in the open in different directions (unless they charged from a trench only to get mowed down). I do like the bayonet charge how the guy yells. Pretty cool. I can imagine melee only servers with teams charging each other in a semi organized fashion.

I'd bet there will be a trench only map

I think this title is probably going to be nvidia sponsored, unlike the past few that were with AMD. If you read that twitter thread it sounds like they are going full on with DX12, as well as explicit DX12 multi gpu support. This may wind up being how we see BF1 play out on PC.

I don't know about that. At the demos they were apparently using a lot of AMD labeled machines. Given they already supported mantle in frostbite and the current and next consoles are AMD I have a hard time seeing this become a gimpworks title.

Agreed, but I highly doubt much more. Though You just won't sell games with 75% of the game being played in muddy trenches with artillery constantly raining down while you sit there with your cloth gas mask getting trench foot.

I just wish there was more emphasis on bolt action rifles with iron sights. So far all I've seen is scoped bolt actions or full auto weapons.

Of course there will be some like the original Battlefield had or Day of Defeat but having everything bolt action would definitely not make for a fun game.

It would make for an extremely competitive and fun game if you ask me. As long as I have the option I will be going bolt action iron sights.

Depends if all bolt action & iron sights means two guys bunny hoping and running around in a circle while they reload. I'd pass if it's stay with your squad to increase fire power I'm in!

Jumping should hit the same energy bucket as running...and should deplete it even faster to keep the running and bunny hopping to a minimum.

Battlefield 1 Big Changes - Multiplayer Gameplay

Battlefield 1 Multiplayer Gameplay - Top Differences in Battlefield 1

Some of the changes sound really great to promote a bit less of spam fest run and gun gameplay. The changes to flag cap speed in conquest sound awesome.

The team and objective play sounds better, but Im not so sure about the gunplay. I despised the horrific bullet spread in the early battlefield games, and that's what it sounds like they are going back to. To me that is the definition of a spam fest; just spraying around because your weapons are so incapable of accurate fire. Sure it makes sense for the French rifles but not the rest of the participants.

I also hate when sniper damage is lessened at close range, that's just stupid. A snipers damage should only be lessened at max ranges, if you can pull off a hit at point blank then it should do 100% damage just as it would at the "sweet spot" he was talking about in the first video.

The game overall looks great but Ill have to play some beta before I make a decision. I prefer more realistic weapon damage in my games so I play BF pretty much only on hardcore servers and with these old vehicles and weapons the first person view is going to be extremely limited.

Not interested anymore, been playing BF series since BF1942 demo, it's been taken in the wrong direction.

But hopefully it turns out well for those who will play it, let's hope it won't be another BF Hardline (or even SW Battlefront) where it dies out in a month.

Battle Across Multiple Maps in Operations in Battlefield 1

Typically, a round in a Battlefield game is completely contained to that one match. You play, you win or lose, and then you move on to the next round. That all changes in Operations, a new game mode coming to Battlefield 1. In it, the outcome of the current round carries over to the next map, giving you the opportunity to fight a sequence of inter-connected battles.

Operations offer epic journeys across several maps based upon real battles of World War I. We wanted to offer a large and epic experience with a focus on teamplay and frontline combat. Adding this meta-layer to the game mode, and stretching it across multiple interesting locations that both look and play very differently, adds a whole new layer of scale and variety to the battles in Battlefield 1. Your team can win on one map, proceed to the next map, and actually see the map you previously fought over on the horizon.

As an attacker you’ll hear the commanding officer’s whistle as the order to charge the enemy trench is given. You’ll run side-by-side with your teammates as you storm towards the enemy defensive positions on foot, in tanks, airplanes, boats, and on horseback. As a defender, you’ll dig down as you hear the alarm go off signaling an incoming attack. You’ll man the stationary machine-guns and cannons to aid you as you rain hell on the advancing enemy attackers.

The attackers must capture and hold all defensive positions in order to capture the sector that is being fought over. Once this is done, the defenders will fall back to the next sector and regroup. The pacing and variety between the different sectors vary widely, since each sector offers a different amount of objectives to capture and defend as well as varied layouts and choke points.

The attackers must take territory and push the frontline forward, while the defenders are trying to hold the line. Should the defenders fail to hold their ground on a map, the Operation doesn’t stop here: they will fall back and regroup on a different map, while the attackers will continue to push. Sectors may fall, but players reinforced by gigantic Behemoths can still turn the tide.

We wanted to create a Battlefield experience that was not just bite-sized, but actually spanned beyond an hour of playtime. Something epic and compelling for players who wanted a chance to immerse themselves in this first global war, and capture the stories of how different battles were deeply connected to one another. This kind of frontline combat really captures the essence of WWI clashes, intimate and deeply rooted in breaking through or holding ground.

Just curious where you feel it's gone wrong?

Personally I don't like the fact that it's completely gone down the path of weapon attachments/kit build-out. I thought it was fun in BC2 but seeing the HUGE selection of attachments and gadgets in 3 and 4 kinda turned me off.

I miss the feeling of "Battlefield" gameplay in BF1942 and BF2 where it was definitely a combined arms capture the point type craziness. BF3+ honestly felt more like call of duty twitchfest with explosions going around everywhere...I doubt this will be much different since this is what people seem to like.

Oh well, guess I outgrew a genre

I don't like this direction either. The focus has shifted too much to twitch-style fps and away from vehicle-based combat on large maps imo. I was hoping a WW1 setting would slow down the gameplay compared to BF3/BF4 but from the videos out now it looks just as frantic and twitchy.

For me Desert Combat mod for BF1942 is still king

Desert Combat was great.

Unfortunately for some of us, people want a faster paced FPS which I understand. People don't want to have to take 5min to get to the battle just to die. I just love vehicle combat of Battlefield still.

I play on a bolt sniper only server. I enjoy it, but most people don't hang around too long. Its the kind of thing you have to really be good at or else you will get supremely wrecked. BF1 would be the ultimate rage quit game.

Why have a NDA with all the videos by Jack Frags and such already out there? They covered it pretty nicely.

Ill just say Im still on the fence about pre-ordering, slightly slower pace than the last couple of BF's.

My main concern is what this guy starts talking about at the 2:28 minute mark in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IekdXi6LjF8

But we all know they will buff/nerf and keep changing everything in each patch for at least year.

I think there was a general misunderstanding of the recoil mechanics. People who were using microbursts like in bf4 were having a bad time.
