Yeah the gas spammers drive me nuts. I don't mind the idea of the grenade, and I feel it can be used tactically. I do feel however that 4 people sit on an ammo pack and turn half the map in to a cloud of gas. Same deal with incendiaries. They need to tweak timers or something.

As far as the shotguns go, I don't know why people feel they are OP? From a closer distance, they can one shot. They SHOULD. Once you get 20-30 meters out, you need 2-3 shots to kill, and from 50-100 you could wind up needing 5-7 shots to kill, enough time to get further out of range of the gun. That doesn't seem so OP to me. I hear people say in game that they got one shot from 75-200m out and they are just entirely full of crap. No shotgun will one shot you from that distance in this game.

The Rocket Gun on the assault class is a ton of fun, and I equip it 100% of the time over dynamite. Useful on vehicles for sure, and it is usable in a lot more scenarios than I currently see it used.
Sometimes I go prone and just use the rocket gun on infantry if we are defending. Works pretty nicely if they are coming in a group lol.

I was 31 and 15 last night in close quarters domination using my assault class. I'm still very far from rank 10 in that class and I would like to get that heilrigger gun.

Got my heilrigger yesterday. Its really good up close (spread goes crazy at med to long range) with its high rate of fire it runs out of ammo quickly. Shotguns are the most fun for assault IMO. The hunter model with the full choke allows for the best range. Ive gotten insanely high kill counts and KDRs with it on the Forrest map in conquest. Playing conquest there is the quickest way to score points and rank up classes except for the scout of course.

I have yet to try a shotgun. I feel like the time i decide to use one, no one will be within range from me. I can't count how many times I've been taken down by shotgunners. Usually it happens when I end up spawning right in front of the enemy too.

Any idea on what's causing the post game stats not to load? I've seen a few complain about it and I'm getting it too.

I've been doing it... At 1920x1200, I'm using 70% resolution scaling, low everything. The only bad thing is that I get textures flickering/flashing every so often. Not sure if it's memory related or drivers -- I haven't updated my drivers because I have one of the last ones before my card became a "legacy" product.

I think I'm CPU limited because my GPU doesn't go past 71 C and it goes to around 80 C when it's being actually stressed.

And I just discovered the weapon "buying" screen......... No idea how to actually buy anything despite having enough war bonds and a green bar.

Edit: And this is annoying. For the past few days, the game has become unresponsive on the Home screen. The background graphics work, I can move the mouse, but the menu buttons don't work. I think it may be related to the online-linked boxes and the server problems people have been talking about here.

How's BF1 compared to BF4? BF4 was pretty fast paced, tightly packed battles (Operation Metro and that snow map I forgot). Didn't like that. Is BF1 more "basic" in regards to weapons since it's WW1 and that there's more team work at play?

Currently playing Overwatch and enjoy it very much, enjoy the team work with competitive mode where people actually coordinate attacks.

^BF1 feels like CoD 4 pace to me. Pretty fast paced, a lot of run and gunning, charging into a group and shooting. Support weapons are fun until someone sneaks up on you and melees you to death.

I would say Team Fortress 2 felt slower which is weird.

BF1 is instantly familiar to BF4, with significant differences as well. Every match is fast paced. That's the way all games are now, the A.D.D. generation has won out. It's not coming back so I just decided to embrace the new style.

The dramatic difference in BF1 is that maps like Metro don't exist. Where Metro was a clusterfluff of grenade spam, peaking around corners, camping doorways, and all the dumb and awful aspects of BF games... the infantry maps in BF1 are the opposite, even with 64 players. There's lots of cover, different passageways, lots of verticality, and destructible buildings which all contribute to the sensation that choke points aren't really an issue anymore.

There's no "Metro-map" in BF1. That's not to say it's not infantry focused, it definitely is. You just never find yourself in the same corner of a map, unable to advance, grenades going off everywhere... for forty minutes.

The other noticeable thing is that, well, there's no choppers. They don't exist. So there's less vehicles polluting the skies. It's noticeably safer to walk around on foot, even on the vehicle heavy maps. Speaking of walking around, it feels like the sprint speed in this game is set to warp speed. You absolutely fly around the map on foot. It took some adjusting to but I now appreciate it.

Lastly, as far as the "basic" weapons are concerned, BF1 primary weapons feel slightly weaker than BF4's, but the secondary pistol feels buffed. Big time. The 1911 is a death dealer, use it... often. This isn't the era of extended mags, holo sights, laser pointers, and IRNV scopes... so the guns in BF1 feel a little neutered in comparison. There's no longer a "magic loadout" anymore. This should really help them maintain balance because DICE was constantly struggling with weapon + attachment balance in the recent games where one setup would be God-tier.

I wasn't actually going to purchase BF1, I'm glad I did.

@NoSoup4You thanks for the detailed response. Looks like I'm gonna pick it up when the next sale hits.

The way you describe it is waht I'm looking for. Being able to move around the map using different paths, and no death halls where you're easily neutered down.

This game you definitely have to use cover or else you're dead.
Yup until you get an idea of the maps and what routes most people will be taking.

I did try out the shotgun last night and it didn't seem to make it easier partly because I kept spawning so far away.

The Argonne Forest conquest map is BF1's "Metro". Plenty of choke points, no vehicles, and close quarters battles, its definitely the easiest place to rank up quickly. But unlike Metro it has more paths to to take which allows you to try and bypass capped areas and back cap enemy flags. The rest of the maps are pretty open standard BF fare.

You have to move fast and pick your battles with a shotgun. Pick a tight area that's highly contested and stay out of the open. Its a pretty good choice for a lot of the Domination maps.

This squad assist medal is driving me bonkers. What the heck kind of medal is that anyway? When you have to depend on someone else to even earn it?!?!?

I need to get into a squad of really good players so I can just hose people down and let them finish them off. Sounds easy enough but I end up having to do all the killing or die myself.

I still would like to see a re-imagined version of Metro and Locker. There are enough players to support having those maps even if not everyone likes them. There also needs to be more city and bunker maps.

Please no. Metro and Locker are not Battlefield. Even the largest maps in BF1 like St Quentin's Scar are fairly linear when you consider they are really not that large compared to the best and largest in BF2 and 2142 like Zetar Wetlands.

However, I will concede that 2142 was the beginning of more linear maps being put into the Battlefield series. BUT under the old style of BF, it wasn't a shit fest that current style BF can devolve to.

Yeah shotgun is where it's at, last night I had 5 shots with it - 5 kills in about 7 seconds lol

Maybe there isn't as much clusterfuck grenade spam like metro, but the mortars are getting beyond annoying on some maps. I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to put a no-skill no risk weapon into the game. When my clan starts a server that will probably be the first thing we dial down. Though with FF on it may fix itself.

how is mortar no skill no risk? when in mortar you can't see anyone around you and you're an easy target. I came across 3 guys mortaring in 1 game and wiped them out like nothing.
not any harder than sniping, hell, i'd say it's harder because you have limited range and most times don't even get to kill your enemy unless they are stupid and don't move.

You don't have to expose yourself to fire. You're just clicking dot on a map with splash damage. Same as previous BF games. Only way it could be worse is if it was homing.
