That looks freaking awesome. Saw some straight up Lawrence of Arabia scenes in that trailer. I can't wait! Also like how they are calling it Battlefield 1.

OK the trailer has me pretty excited for this game, glad they're going for a totally different setting for this one. I wonder if you'll be able to board zeppelins like titans in 2142?

It could be fun. I watched the trailer just a moment ago (live). It's just a trailer though, in-engine, sure... still, it's staged to be presentable as a trailer. I'll have to see actual non-stop, uninterrupted game-play to make up my mind about it. But already I know this much: I'm glad it's not yet another modern shooter. The fact alone that they bring World War 1 (with perhaps a bit of mixed-in technology and scale that doesn't belong there for a distinct steampunk-style and flavor) is enough to grab my attention.

I used to play the crap out of BF1942 and BF2, loved them both. But I lost interest starting with BF3, and only played about 30 hours of BF4 total. I'm tired of modern online shooters. And I didn't want WW2 either. So yeah, happy to see it's basically WW1 with the known sandbox Battlefield formula (with cavalry too, that's awesome; can't wait to charge a tank with my horse and a saber in one hand).

Did you guys catch the battleships in the trailer? I wonder if they will bring back spotting for artillery.

Not so sure. I'll say I'm happy about the flame thrower and mounted infantry could be fun. Maybe there'll be airship battles like 2142 but I am fully prepared to be let down.

Map design is going to be critical for this, which has been a weak point lately. I give them huge props for trying something different from the tired war genres. Even though WW2 really is the best platform for shooters imo with it's spectrum of technology and everything being manual enough to be meaningful to player.

I dunno, what was with that giant armored dude and the guy carrying what looks like a plane mounted machine gun? I guess they are trying to make WWI trench warfare fast and furious, but most of the time the far fetched made up nonsense really takes me out of the game. Have to wait for the Beta to see I suppose.

It's a fictional World War setting, and there's definitely some steampunk thrown in. It's basically WW1 on steroids, and I do like the idea of that. A "real" WW1 setting might still have been interesting, but exaggerating some aspects of it for game-play purposes isn't a bad thing in my book.

I couldn't see the game having the mass appeal they want if they adhered to a strict WW1 setting. The guns and vehicles would not be what a lot of players would want.

Early German body armour. Mainly used for sentry units that manned the machine guns.

WWI had a lot of crazy stuff in it. Sure there are going to be some liberties, but I think there is enough there as it was a really world wide conflict with different battles in very different locations.

I said the same thing to my friend today, about the zeppelins as Titans. That would be purely Epic

At least with bi-planes, air shouldn't be overpowered though it might be easier to hit infantry if you're moving slower.

There was one comment that made me worry bigtime about their being a server browser.

One of the DICE guys said something like 'we're looking to make the transition from server to server seamless and be part of the in-game experience'. Then another comment about how 'you will stay with your squad from server to server'.

Now, the latter comment by itself would be awesome. Be able to join and queue for games as a Squad, have your party leader go find a new server and everyone follows, that would be awesome.

What wouldn't be awesome is the SW: Battlefront server system, and the first comment from the DICE guy seems to indicate that they are going that way....

That was a cool link, I knew there was some weird armor around in that era but didnt realize they went full medieval on each other.

If thats the case then count me out right now. Im one of the few in here it seems that actually enjoyed SWBF, but that lack of a server browser eventually drove me away.

Why on earth would they not use the awesomeness that is Battlelog???

Well just add it to the list of reasons to not pre-order the game. It's not like they will run out of digital copies of the game.
