There was one comment that made me worry bigtime about their being a server browser.

One of the DICE guys said something like 'we're looking to make the transition from server to server seamless and be part of the in-game experience'. Then another comment about how 'you will stay with your squad from server to server'.

Now, the latter comment by itself would be awesome. Be able to join and queue for games as a Squad, have your party leader go find a new server and everyone follows, that would be awesome.

What wouldn't be awesome is the SW: Battlefront server system, and the first comment from the DICE guy seems to indicate that they are going that way....

That would be an instant never-buy. I may not be overly fond of the idea of an fps shooter in ww1 setting, but with decently good feedback from players I would be in. SWBF server system? It doesn't matter how good they make it.

If thats the case then count me out right now. Im one of the few in here it seems that actually enjoyed SWBF, but that lack of a server browser eventually drove me away.

Why on earth would they not use the awesomeness that is Battlelog???

if they do battlefront server browser, game is dead.

As much as I love the franchise it would likely be its death knell for me if they did away with dedicated servers. It would be a disaster.

I haven't tried SWBF but if its like Heroes & Generals' its not that horrible of an idea. Basically you have no choice what server to join you select a character & map(s) the game assigns a server. Ping is almost always fine and a low populated match gets filled up rapidly. You can always join a friends map provided there is space. Squads are set up before the match.
Its not a perfect set up however it does have benefits.

It's a console system and they never bother to make a PC server browser. I hope they are smart enough not to make the same mistake again.

Agreed. I'm not sure I could handle that. I need to be able to join a server of my choice. What about joining your clan's server? There would be no clans?

Looks like it could be fun. Not sure I really need another BF experience (though I also would enjoy seeing a 2143).

WW1 has me interested. I'm kinda tired of futuristic shooters honestly. Plus no lock-on weapons is always a plus.

Refreshing. I am excited, but will wait until I see more. Have not been thrilled with BF3 or BF4, so this looks like a nice change of pace.

Yah, no server browser is the biggest concern for me by far. Might be okay on console, but it just doesn't work on PC. Active mods are the only way to control toxic players and hackers. Plus its really the best way to build communities.

I find the engadget poster's logic a bit odd. He doesn't mind murdering people in games because they are "faceless". However, he is not ok with WWI?

My opinion is that any mainstream media that can perk the interest of people (especially the younger generations) wanting to learn about world history is good. Our WWI and WWII veterans are few and far between these days. I believe that "The Great War" youtube channel grew about 50k subscribers the day the trailer dropped.

*old person rant over*

I'm hoping that they really meant that stuff to be in addition to the traditional server browser. It made somewhat sense on SW: BF because of the more casual audience, but would be horrible for BF5.

I am pretty excited about this one. BF is my third fav FPS game (series) of all time. I like that they went back to WWI. I will probably buy both the PC and PS4 version like Battlefront. Because I prefer kb+mouse, but son and friends play on PC. I wish they would let me use both accounts and not have to level up two separate accounts, so damn annoying.

Yes but they were sort of separated into their own class.

I did some research essentially pre-dreadnoughts were entirely different. Dreadnoughts added several large guns because the older ships with 5" guns had trouble hitting at more that 3k(?) yards. Dreadnoughts added large guns to handle this roll. Battleships at the time went all large guns except a few small caliber guns to deal with close range and torpedo defense. They also had better fire control.
But there is no hard definition other than arguably the number of smaller caliber guns however you are correct they were different classes.
