Something I couldn't quite put my finger on I didn't like about the game.
It's funny, because technically its probably the best release yet. Its obvious a lot of work went into correcting assorted foibles from the past BF series.
On top of it, I remember proposing 15 years ago a WWI themed video game, but there was zero interest.
Ironically, I think the issue I have with the game is that it's too 'realistic' – while being too unrealistic – if that makes any sense.
They worked hard to visceralize the gore, violence, physical experience being interactive - wrapped in seudo historical events and characters. Yet there are many major historical inaccuracies in the game, to say nothing of the overall experience they want to leave the player with.
I think a lot of people that play this game will get the sense, consciously or unconsciously, that they somehow "know" World War I. Most young people are not educated well on history, and will get most of the information ( more importantly, impressions) from pop media, like this game.
I'm not explaining this very well, partly because I'm trying to work through it myself.
Anyway, in short I find the game "engaging" - not "fun ".
Maybe it's because I know about intellectual history. Or the technical quality of games has gone up, while the overall fun factor has gone down in some cases. Previous battlefield games seemed to have more of a cartoony quality to them, not depressing music and more realistic ways to stab people.
